Artist Notes:
In the late 19th Century, Japanese artist Okatori created a wonderful ivory carving (called a "netsuke") of two rats. Now, over a hundred years later, these ratties form the main image for this Chinese New Year card for 2032 and the Year of the Rat. A stylized mouse hole on a textured background of brown hues, frames the two young rats, making an appealing image for the Year of the Rat or Mouse, the first animal in the Chinese zodiac cycle. The text above the rats is playfully arranged to emulate the undulating movement of a running rat, and the long tail of the capital "R" looks suspiciously like a rat's tail, its most prized possession.
