After entering the annual lottery for more than two decades, I finally landed a slot in the annual Raptor Education Foundation photo safari! We were treated to 12 different winged creatures, some of whom were my first encounters with their species. This short-eared owl was a new raptor in my camera's viewfinder, and it was so fun to watch that head rotate almost all the way around! I could have watched each of the owls we met that day all day long, never tiring. When I go out in the wild now, I'm scanning every tree, intently searching for any kind of owl.
