Artist Notes:
This card offers congratulations (Mazal Tov) to a Jewish couple upon their marriage. The banner above the frame wishes good fortune and joy to the new bride and groom written in Hebrew calligraphy. The antique wedding ring is modeled after a medieval German communal marriage ring that was loaned to a bride and groom who could not afford to buy their own. It was later exchanged for a simple gold band. The golden wine cup (kiddush cup) is traditionally wrapped in a cloth and crushed by the groom to confirm the marriage ceremony. The prayer shawl (tallit) is draped above the tiny trees to represent a chuppah or structure to accomodate the wedding ceremony. The frame of pomegranate flowers and leaves represents fertility and mitzvot (good deeds).
