Inside Text:
Raccoons prefer to live in wooded areas
with a water source nearby,
eating about 40% invertebrates, 33% plants,
and 27% vertebrates.
However, due to loss of habitat
raccoons have had to adapt to urban areas
where some homeowners consider
them to be pests.
The land we now use was once theirs,
when they raid our garbage cans or damage
our property they are not being malicious
they are merely trying to survive in a
new unfamiliar world.
Today is the perfect time to learn about
these intelligent, magnificent animals
you'll be glad you did
and so will they!

Artist Notes:
International Raccoon Appreciation Day is observed on October 1st, a perfect day to learn about these intelligent, magnificent animals. Raccoon are known for their intelligence and mischief which often causes conflicts with humans. Loss of habitat and food is why these conflicts exist. They are not malicious animals they are just trying to survive. This is Bullwinkle a thirteen-year-old Wildlife Ambassador standing pretty against a living coral, color of the year background. Bullwinkle and his brothers have lived with my family and me 24/7 since they were 18 days old. We feel very privileged to have the opportunity to share in their lives.
