Inside Text:
What is life like for people with Down Syndrome?

Though we may struggle with some things,
you help us build on our own strengths and personality.

You point out the things we can do,
rather than focus on issues we find difficult.

When we push the boundaries,
you are there to guide us.

A big thank you to all family caregivers!

You are helping someone like me become independent,
form relationships and get the most out of life,
just like everyone else.

Artist Notes:
Caregivers give of themselves unconditionally to assume responsibility for someone who cannot care fully for themselves. A person may need help because of loss of memory, illness or because they have special needs. This design focuses on individuals with Down Syndrome who have a degree of learning difficulty. With the dedication of caregivers, most people with Down Syndrome lead fulfilling, semi-independent lives. I have also chosen to focus on Down Syndrome because despite certain physical characteristics that are more common, people with Down Syndrome are not all the same. It is important to remember they are each of them an individual with their own strengths and personality that make them who they are. They continue to learn throughout their lives just like everyone else.
