Happy Chinese New Year! It's the Year of the Dog, and time to wish Gong Xi Fa Cai to friends, family, and dog-lovers alike. This cute design for the Chinese New Year of the Dog is based on a painting from over a hundred years ago, by Japanese artist Sekka Kamisaka. In 1909, Kamisaka created a simple painting of an inquisitive puppy sniffing at a snail as his buddy observes from the safety of a bamboo grove. The red Chinese symbols (signifying Year of the Dog) and a bright red border has been added to Kamisakas's soft tones of beige, pale tawny gold, grey and black, to make a cheerful New Year’s greeting for the Year of the Dog.
