My Interests:  Here's an artist bio giving some basic information about my history. I've lived in the Pacific northwest for thirty years and have traveled the inland passage north to Alaska . I've fished throughout Alaska and draw great strength and confidence from the people and culture. The symbolism in their art strikes a resonance inside of me, a connection with the earth of America. So I find myself in the northwest, fertile ground of mythological information, and am compelled to carve totem, these large pieces of ancient cedar wood that I hunt for and in many occasions reclaim are shards of a passing time. The large totem for the house of the human beings could easily be a sliver off of an ancient tree in the Frasier valley with an age approximately 2000 to 5000 years old. When I discover a piece of material such as this, I can think of no greater work to be represented than the local energies and spirits. Through this guidance from the ancestors, I believe is the reason why I carve totem. Magnificent Old Growth Cedar Totem Pole. Pacific Northwest sculptor Eric Singleton (www.ericsingleton.net) Dimensions: 199 inches High(16' 7"), 37 inches Wide at base(3' 1") 11 inches Deep at base. Mediums: Carved from one solid piece of ancient Cedar Solid bronze Sun This house pole shows the relationship of the animal spirits and human beings. At the bottom the human sits, protected by the strength of Bear, while Bear consumes the ones with unquenchable thirsts, and the Ancestors watch from Bear's ears, hearing and seeing everything. Above Bear, Moon-Frog translates the stories and legends of human events into the language that Mother Earth understands. Rising above the great Moon-Frog is the mechanism of the Sun, churning through our sky for so long as to seem endless. Resting on the top of the Sun is the face of She Who Watches, announcing with confidence that beyond her is human territory. And crowning the hierarchy of these causes and events stands the Raven; responsible for the placement of each player in the magnificent procession. This piece of ancient old growth Cedar is more like a shard, a sliver of a great tree with potential dimensions of 15 to 25' across at the base. as can be seen in photographs taken by Mr D.R Kinsey of Snoqualmie photographed in and around the 1890's. I believe the tree to have been four to six thousand years old. At this time in our society, here truly is a magnificent wonder of nature. This piece of sculpture is designed for indoor or outdoor installation. Given proper placement in your home, this piece of art could easily be carried through a doorway into your living room and installed as a main architectural feature in your home. Equally appropriate in community and business applications. Shipping by freight. Please contact us to request shipping information, prices will vary by location.
