The origins of Bosses Day date back to 1958. It was during this year that a woman named Patricia Bays Haroski went to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and registered the title of "National Bosses Day." Her boss was also her father and his birthday was October 16th and this became the official day she selected for recognizing one's boss. Despite the seemingly minute development of this holiday, it was adopted as an Illinois state holiday in 1962.
