Cartoon imges or photography?
Mar 3rd, 2011, 4:12pm

I have a mix of cartoon images and photography. Which do you think is better for me to focus on that?
I would appreciate feedback. My gallery is http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/vidacarddesigns

If you don't want to keep a mix of the two, then my first question is what do you enjoy more?  Which one inspires you more?

I do a big old mix and try to cover what I can,
hopefully versatile, but yup depends on what you enjoy the most.

I like not limiting myself.  There are days I am on fire doing stuff with my photographs and other days I like to sketch, scan and color in digitally created images.  Other times I like to just work with Photoshop Elements brushes and just create from there... I agree, I would work with what best inspires... I like to play around so I'm not going to specialize on any one type.

I myself like your photos better, but I do agree with the others, there are days that I want to do more than just photos. So, variety is good.  Wink

I think it is a great advantage if you can do both.  Sometimes buyers are in the mood for a photo and sometimes a cartoon.  I say, create both!

I think they look good together James.  Cool

I do photography and computer art. I have paintings too, but I'll have to dig them out of the attic to photograph.  Roll Eyes When I do, you can bet I'll be putting them up!

If you feel strongly about keeping your art and photos separate, I think I read somewhere that you can have more than one shop. You can ask one of the more established members or moderators about it.

Good luck at GCU!

You can have two shops with different email address...HOWEVER...

Unlike Zazzle, there is no Volume Payout, so your stores stand alone.  So now you have two stores that need to reach $25 each quarter in order to payout.  In other words, they are not tied together at all.

Just so you know that going in  Wink

If you can do both I think you are very fortunate.

Hi James,

As Doreen has said, you can have two stores but it would be a personal thing dependent on how you promote your work. Last month I had over 26k card clicks and only 55 store clicks, that is because I promote individual cards and not my store in general. Over at the Z place I have split up my work into different stores but my volume bonus is still linked to my main store.

James, you've really got a talent for both!  Doreen's suggestion of two stores is a great idea, then you can really compare the number of clicks/sales to see which the rest of the world likes.  I personally would like to see more cartoons because the style is pretty unique, so maybe you could set up a more playful storefront to feature them.  Good luck!

Actually, two stores was not my idea (I don't care for the idea)...I was simply answering the question of whether you can have two stores.

I do not like the idea of having two stores myself. I only have one here. To me, that is enough to keep up with. I feel like, by having one store I can add a lot of variety to it by mixing it all up with different kinds of cards. I figure that most people are like me, they get bored when all there is to look at is photos. I only have one Zazzle store and one RedBubble store as well. One here... one there... has always kept me busy enough, but not so busy that I can't start something new.  Grin
