postage charges
Sep 17th, 2010, 1:00am

I have no idea where this should go so if it is the wrong place can someone please move it for me? Thanks. Smiley
Just want to ask about postage charges. Iknow the company is based in the USA. Frequently there is a special on postage but only ever for US desinations.
Not all GCU customers are in the USA yet I never see a postage special for outside the US. Sometimes when you do free post for 10 or more there why can't there be a special reduction for those of us outside the USA?
It would definately be an incentive for me to buy more because it is quite expensive to have cards sent here and this just adds to the price of the card.

Being a fellow Australian I am aware of the postage costs too and I'm wondering if this is why no one from Australia has bought any of my cards. Not even my closest friends and relatives.  cry

I do know what you mean, no one here buys my cards either, unless i buy them and resell them, all my sales have been US based. last year I bought a large amount to sell here in one of the local shops that takes my cards if I get them here and the postage was so expensive compared to the number of cards I bought that I didn't reorder any, I made less on them that I do online due solely to the cost of postage to get them here, it just makes them too expensive.
I have seen a lot of artists here who purchase their own and sell them in local stores and when they have specials like free postage on 10 or more cards well why wouldn't you!? Even at other times it costs far less if you live there to do it.
even if we had once a year a special for 20 or even 30 cards and free postage I would buy a heap for all the seasons and holidays.
I know they have to deal with US postal charges but they manage to absorb the costs for local why not at least some for their overseas artists and customers.

Hm... sorry about the rant... just disappointed is all  Sad

How much are you selling your cards for locally? We have an Art & Craft exhibition coming up and I will have a stall for two weeks selling my cards and candles. I'm asking $4 for the cards which is still cheaper than the card shops.

LOL I too sell mine for $4 each. They sell because they are still cheaper (just!) than the shops and they are unique BUT i don't make much due to the cost of postage. Sad
I just wish they would have a special once in a while for the artists outside the US.
Good luck with your stall, I hope you sell heaps! Smiley

I'm in the US and purchase cards for resale when there is free shipping.I sell them for $4.

It would be a nice gesture to those artists who  have a card store from other countries to receive a discount on shipping  so they may resell  them in their homeland. It would be a win win situation, since they would probably order more cards.

I hope GCU can help you.

Blessings

Hello Selina and Eve,

I feel for you!  I sell on Ebay and love dealing with people overseas, however shipping usually is a challenge.  Some customers overseas I find who buy a lot online have the items sent to a friend or family memeber here in the states and then when they have enough items have the entire parcel shipped.

I think the shipping cost is somewhat expensive even for shipping the cards domestically when you are ordering in bulk, but there are less expensive ways that the printer can ship cards.  I'm assuming part of the shipping fees are to cover handling and packaging.  A suggestion would be that if you have a friend or family member here, take advantage of the free shipping discounts and have the cards shipped to them and then they could ship the order to you.  It would take slightly longer, but a USPS Priority Flat Rate envelope can hold a lot of cards safely and shipping to most any worldwide destination is just $13.45 U.S. with up to four pounds. There is also a small Flat Rate Priorty box that would just fit a  5X7 card and envelope and which I'm sure would hold 40-50 cards also for the same price.   They also have a medium and large Priority Flat Rate mail boxes that you could ship several hundred cards at a time in with up to twenty pounds and the prices are $43.45 and $55.95 respectively.  If you do the postage online and drop the package off or have the carrier pick it up, you can save a couple of dollars more.

I'm in the UK and I have exactly the same problem, it's too expensive, even if you buy in bulk, to buy cards to sell locally because of the shipping costs.

I do buy my own cards to give to friends and family but not cost effective to sell.

Wow! Randall Thank you so much for that information, that really is helpful.
I do have someone I can send the cards to in the US, now I will just keep my fingers crossed they have a discaount or free postage again soon so I try your suggestion in time for Christmas!
Much appreciated! Smiley
