Keyword Question
Jul 8th, 2010, 7:45am

Hi!

Thought I would ask here.....I can NEVER get a response from reviewers!!  I had some cards returned to me this morning with the reviewers note saying:

" Please remove the keywords  postcard, postcards"   With no explanation as to why...........

I checked first, found LOTS of APPROVED cards with the same keywords used....mine were appropriately designed to use such keywords, and I placed them in the "Blank Note Cards, Places/Cities, Outdoors/Landscapes categories"  as they pertained to this.....and all insides are blank.

Even if GCU does not offer post cards.....why are these keywords not allowed, when the card fronts are made appropriate to those words?  They are simply descriptive words describing the look of the card!  NOT THE CATEGORY I WAS TRYING TO PLACE IT IN!!  (As I did not see any for Post Cards)   I assumed they did not sell them.

BUT........if you are using a perfectly good descriptive word to describe your card front, It's NOT MISLEADING shoppers either!  BECAUSE THE FRONT OF THE CARD LOOKS LIKE A POST CARD!
 AND
WHY were other cards approved?  They fell into different categories too, but.......had a "postcard look" to the front of the cards.
When we are simply told to REMOVE SOMETHING.... the reviewer has always, (even if a short sentence) has given me at least a clue why!  But, not this time.....
Would  "postcard look" be more appropriate Grin Grin Grin

Thanks In Advance Smiley
Cindy

Hi Cindy,

There was a thread a while ago I think, though as usual I couldn't find it  Grin  I think they decided somewhat recently because of a disgruntled customer, that since GCU does not offer postcards, it was misleading.  Can't for the life of me find it, but I think I remember this happening and Mindy left a response.

As far as all the other cards with those keywords, I have been frustrated about that for a long time and no one at GCU responds to any of the suggestions on cleaning up all the cards with bad keywords (which by the way take up front page spots many times).

I have a long list going of cards I find while making new ones or searching for cards to promote that would never be allowed in that category or keywords that are not remotely associated with the card using today's guidelines, however I don't have any place to send the list, so I just keep adding to it.  It's EXTREMELY frustrating, isn't it?

MODIFIED:  You are RIGHT Cindy!  I did a search after I posted this on postcard and there are cards approved in the 600,000 series which are very recent with the keywords post card and postcard.  The thread I was remembering was months ago, so NEVER MIND!!

I can't find the reply from Mindy either - but their was a request from GCU that we ARtists remove misleading Keywords from our card designs. Apparently GCU had  several incidents where customers ordered cards with Keywords such as Embossed,  Metallic, Postcard, flocked, etc. expecting the actual card to be embossed, metallic, postcard, flocked, etc. and were very disgruntled and unsatisfied with their orders. So to avoid further confusion these misleading keywords are no longer allowed.

As to why GCU hasn't removed the misleading Keywords from the existing offending cards I suspect it has to do with time /manpower which is why they requested we police our own cards 1st. It's not clear if the artists that had the returns due to this problem lost their commission due to this problem or if the customer received credit for another purchase and GCU just lost $ due to bad keywords. AT any rate this happened often enough for GCU to no longer accept certain keywords.

Maybe it would be more appropriate to say this card has the look of an old postcard or whatever and put the description under artists notes as opposed to he keywords. Just a thought.

Hi Diane!

That is what I did for now......I put the keywords  "postcard look" and resubmitted them!
I just hope it's not taken as sarcasm in which it will REALLY TICK OFF the reviewer! Shocked

I guess they will just tell me  "NO AGAIN!"  Grin

welp....I'll wait and see what happens... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Thanks,
Cindy

Correct, it is related to setting shoppers' expectations clearly, or at least trying to avoid any misleading terms when possible.  You'd be amazed at some of the misunderstandings we see.  This issue has nothing to do with categories.  We are getting particular about it since we do compensate unhappy shoppers (refunds, reorders, etc.), whatever it takes to make them happy.  So it costs GCU $.  We do not take earnings away from the artist.

So yes, per the below post on the forum please avoid terms that could give the shopper the impressing that a card is physically different than what it actually is.  Postcard would be one of those terms since GCU at this time does not sell postcards.
Here is the post:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1276722848

We have added "postcard" as a sample term to avoid in that list.  As suggested in the post and as it sounds like you have done, modifying the term to be more clear, postcard-like, postcard-look.

This text in your Artist's Notes certainly gives the impression that this card will arrive as a traditional postcard vs a 5x7 folded greeting card:
"Making it a wonderful POSTCARD..."

An exception of course would be where content of the image itself incorporate postcards (ie: vintage postcards, etc.) like this card for example:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/-Traveling+Doberman+-+Rocky-greeting+card-64 3363?pid=643363

We will take a pass on existing cards using this term that we believe are misleading.  Just a matter of resources.

Hope this is helpful info, let me know if you have other questions.

Sorry, wanted to follow up on this ... how do you contact the reviewers?

Can you post a pid# of one of the cards with this return reason so we can look into their notes and communications?

Thanks!

Hi Mindy, Smiley

I always empty my e-mails  (thinking I will not need them Roll Eyes

but...I still had the last one Wink

#650159  and when I want to ask a question (like on this card)  I reply back with my question Smiley
Because it would be a question on an already approved card!  ( APPROVED WITH COMMENTS)

so I reply back on what they sent me...figuring they would know what my question was referring to, since their comment on my card is attached undecided  did anything I have said here make any sense? Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

I hope so Wink

aaaaaaand since were on the subject of that particular card....

It started with this card and the reviewers note

#649661
Categories:
Categories:
Occasions » Thank you » Thoughtfulness / Kindness
Occasions » Thank you » Friendship

Please Note: Since the front of card text says - Friend - we have replaced - Thoughtfulness / Kindness with - Friendship.

Then........I got this back "approved with comments: ( same exact card inside and out ) EXCEPT I changed the rose photo on the outside....

#650159
Categories:
Occasions » Thank you » Thoughtfulness / Kindness

Please Note: Occasions » Thank you » Friendship removed

so I REPLIED back on 7/3 with:

To Reviewer:
Hi!  Just wondering about this.....This exact card....I was just told by another reviewer, was to be put under the friendship category  (which I had not chosen in the first place).....the only thing I changed here was the flowered photo.  So I am confused why friendship is NOW removed?  This makes it difficult to learn where they need to go.
Please Respond Soon
Thanks,
Cindy

P.S.  Does it just depend on what reviewer you get?

and then I never got a response...

and THANK YOU Mindy....I DO see the point about the keywords and will make sure I add "look"  THANK YOU SO MUCH for looking into this and for quickly responding Smiley

 Thanks,
 Cindy
