Are cards suitable ?
Jul 4th, 2010, 8:15pm

I am wondering if some one ( or several) could give me an idea of how my cards present.I have been in GCU since March, and have only sold two cards .....do you think that they are not the right "Taste " for GCU people ?
I must say on another more "arty " site , I get lots of response I or they just being polite!), though no sales yet ( have only been there a few weeks .)
Thanks for reading this . Mary

Mary, I think your "taste" is just fine.  I've been a member since March also and I've found reading the forums has given me a lot of good advice.  The best advise was to study what is selling (just watch the home page) and make sure you have cards in those or similar categories.  Also, I've noticed that I seem to sell cards shortly after I but a bunch up...not sure if that is just a coincidence but it has encouraged me to keep adding to my collection...not that I'm a real big seller, but I am pretty proud that I'm up to 36 cards sold.  Also, don't be shy about telling your friends about your cards, I make sure to "announce" my sales on my Facebook page just so my friends and family don't forget that they can buy cards on GCU.

Hi Mary,

I had a quick look at your shop. There are some nice cards in there. I really liked this one for example:

http://artist.greetingcarduniverse.com/-mothers+Day-greeting+card-605443?pid=605 443&page=1&aid=140624&ref=cb_card_title

Its an absolutely lovely painting. But if I were you I would:

1. Work on the keywords. You missed out on a load of relevant and obvious ones like mother, child, mothers day, painting etc. I think most people looking for cards will use the search rather than going through categories, but no one using the search looking for mothers days cards are going to find yours!
2. Write a description (helps google index your card and send people your way)
3. The text on the card is very hard to read. Red text on a busy background with lots of red too tend to get lost. Use a more contrasting color to make sure the text is legible (or alter the background behind the text).

Hi Mary!

Your cards are very charming and creative. I think they will do well in the long run. My advice is to keep adding to your collection and as your selection grows so will your sales.

Good luck!

Hi Mary,

I try to think of what words a shopper might use if they were searching for my card.
I use colors, and adjectives all the time like pretty, cute, loving, sweet, delightful, etc.

If you look under
Manage store>reports and analysis>top on site key words
you will get an idea of what search terms are used on GCU.

Also here's a good google tool to test popularity of key words
https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeting/Explorer?__u=1000000000&__c=100000000 0&id
eaRequestType=KEYWORD_IDEAS#search.none

Also don't forget to use plurals.  People usually search in plural terms.  Flowers, stars, birds, dogs, children, kids, flags, etc.  Took me forever to think in plural when writing key words.

Your cards are terrific and very unique with a wonderful sense of fun.
