THE MOST BIZARRE REASON  4 DECLINED CARD
Jun 28th, 2009, 1:59pm

HI EVERYONE! Smiley  Smiley  Smiley
I JUST RECEIVED THE MOST SURREAL AND BIZARRE REASON Shocked FOR A DECLINED CARD.

I HAVE SUBMITTED 13 CARDS WITH THE SAME EXACT IMAGE. THE IMAGE CAME IN THE CATEGORY BEST FOR PRINTING.

1 CARD FOR HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND 12 FOR AGE SPECIFIC FROM 1 TO 12 YEARS OLD.

THE HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY CARD WAS DECLINED AND ALL THE OTHERS WERE DIRECTLY APPROVED WITH NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER.

THE REASON FOR THE DECLINE: THE IMAGE HAS WRINKLES THAT ARE DISTURBING AND DO NOT TRANSLATE WELL IN A GREETING CARD (BUT IT IS THE SAME EXACT IMAGE OF ALL THE OTHERS THAT WERE APPROVED  Huh).

THIS IS THE MOST RAMDOMLY AND UTTERLY UNCOHERENT JUDGEMENT  Roll Eyes I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT ARE THE PARAMETERS FOR JUDGMENT?

IT SEEMS THAT THE SUBJECTIVITY HERE IS VOLATILE!!!!!!!............... IT DEPENDS ON WHICH SIDE OF THE BED YOU WAKE UP ON A SPECIFIC DAY (???????)

I HAVE READ MANY ARTISTS' COMPLAINTS ABOUT REJECTED CARDS BEFORE, BUT I THINK THIS ONE RECEIVES THE PRIZE FOR THE MOST OUTRAGEOUSLY HILLARIOUS Grin.

YOU CAN SEE THESE CARDS AT <ARTCOR7CARDGALLERY> THEY WERE JUST POSTED TODAY SUNDAY JUNE 28 2009.

CHEERS TO THE ARTISTS!!!!!!!  Smiley Smiley  Smiley  Smiley  Smiley  Smiley  Smiley

Hi Leonilde,
These things happen sometimes. I would send an email to:cardreview@greetingcarduniverse.com. I am sure they will look into it for you.

I know you may see artists sometimes complain about the reviewers and their judgements, but I feel they are only trying to do their job and follow the guidelines that GCU has in place. Sometimes there are differences of 'vision' between the artist and the reviewer, sometimes it is an honest artist error (I am grateful they catch those!) and then there are those times when they are just being human and a mistake occurs. Perhaps this is the case here.
Personally, I found it a bit rough when you imply that the reviews are done on a 'which side of the bed you get up on basis', They do a great job considering how many hundreds of cards are approved each week, they are our partners in this venture, we work together.

Sorry to speak out, I do not want to offend and hope you understand, but I felt compelled to add two cents here in defense of what might just be an honest mistake.
Pamela

Just a reminder: writing in all capital letters reads like you're shouting.

Talk about sensationalising a small mishap....I hardly find it a "most bizarre" situation. Give the reviewers a break...spend a day in their shoes and see how many complaints you get from unhappy artists.  Shocked

well... I have to say i am a little disappointed at some of the artist's responses here.
Usually i see such lovely responses and supportive responses.  I understand all your points about the reviewers and what a tough job they have....  but i have to say If i had the same situation happen where one of 12 of the same image was rejected i would probably find that pretty bizarre and random.
Especially being newer here.  It isn't always easy to understand a reviewer's rejection but i do agree they are human and not perfect and they do the very best that can in a tough situation.
Thanks Pamela for being the only one who tried to explain in terms that were not so harsh.

Lionidle, I hope you continue here, you have a lovely line of cards to offer.  There are things that will come up now and again that we don't like or don't understand but you will find the staff here is very good about listening and responding....and generally....you can count on helpful and supportive advice here in the forum.

take care.

Leonilde, I sympathize with your rejection. Sometimes it seems that there is no logic in the world. As a point, are you sure it was the same reviewer for all the cards? Look at the reviewer number and check. It might not have been the same reviewer.

Hi Tracy!

Thank you for answering.
I am sorry you interpret the capitalizing like shouting. That was not my intention at all. If you look at my cards, all the information I have is capitalized as well. So, it is just my way. I was completely unaware that it could convey "shouting" at others.
Anyway, thank you for expressing your feelings. It opened my mind to the view of the other and gives me another perspective. It makes me think. Thanks for that.

Hi Pamela!
Thank you for expressing your opinion. Receiving feedback is the most precious thing in the forum. So, I really appreciate your words of wisdom. I also apologize to the reviewers. I am aware of their work and what it entails, but my reaction at the moment was of bewilderment and plain frustration and when that happens one tends to be harsh. However, I still find the situation really awkward and it clearly denotes very different examining parameters. As a whole, it really does not make sense. Nevertheless, I will follow your suggestion and try to find out what happened. Thanks again.

Hi Kathy!
Thanks for the suggestion. I am not sure exactly where do you see the number of each reviewer, but I will look for it. It must be somewhere in the card submission area, right?

Hi Stacy!
Thank you for your participation and insight. This is what makes a forum so great.  We get different perspectives and learn a lot about others and ourselves.

Hi Leonilde,
Thanks for your kind reply Smiley it was certainly not my intention to be harsh either.
The forum is a great place to iron out wrinkles, except in this case 'wrinkles' may not be the right metaphor to use  Grin
Anyway, I still think this was an oversight somewhere and will be resolved soon, and 'lucky' number 11 will find it's home amongst the other cards.

Just so you don't single out Tracy_135547, all caps looks like shouting to me too and I think that is pretty much the accepted meaning across most forums.  It is also much easier to read when you use caps and small together. Smiley

Each e-mail concerning the status of a card is signed by a GCU card review team with a number.

Although we strive for total consistency in reviews there is inherently some subjectivity.  Your series was in fact reviewed by 2 different reviewers.  In this case all but one of your cards were reviewed by the same reviewer.  It is our goal to review a group of similar cards together, at the same time, for exactly this reason.

At closer look your card image appears to be a photo of fabric, a pillow as you have noted in the Artist Notes.  It is evident that there are some wrinkles in the fabric.  The first reviewer was ok with this, the second reviewer was not and left the following message for you:

Please Note: This image will not translate well in print as a greeting card. The composition and photograph will not produce a quality greeting card. The wrinkles on the pillow are distracting.

See card image here:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/zoom.asp?pid=447485&w=1

Since all but one have been approved we will approve the one that was declined and let you as the artist decide if you improve your images to be wrinkle free or not.  Perhaps ask yourself, is this the quality of card shoppers will buy?  They certainly vote with their dollars.

The image quality indicator when you upload the image "Best for Printing" has nothing to do with subject matter.  It is only an indicator of the file size & resolution and would not identify things like blurry, crooked, etc.

BTW, you can find the reviewer id codes in the card review emails at the bottom in the salutation as a 3 digit code.

For example:
Connecting Artists & Card Buyers,
GreetingCardUniverse.com
GCU Card Review Team
443

Hope that helps!  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Smiley
