Fonts for your cards - front
Jul 18th, 2009, 7:02pm

The program I have to manipulate my cards has a very poor font selection.  The size does not go high enough to make a great looking font.

What are you using?  Thanks

Hello,
Not sure if this will help, but I just use the fonts installed on my computer.Must be at least a hundred or more.
You can always do a google search for free fonts.I'm sure you'll find hundreds of them to download.
Hope this helps you.
Regards,
James

Thanks for replying James.. I have fonts but I can't get them to appear big enough on the front of my card.. so I thought I must need a different program.

Hi Ruth

I use Photoshop Elements that came with my digital camera.  I can manually manipulate the size of the font that I add and you can distort, arch the text, or do a number of things to the text.  And yes, I do recommend checking the internet for free fonts - I was able to get some additional ones.

What program are you using Ruth? I know the Adobe programs and Gimp allow font resizing. I use Photoshop cs4, but mainly because I am a photographer and that is my main program.

I use Elements and I have found that the bigger the image, the smaller the font looks. If you are creating your card at larger than five by seven or seven by five the font apears to be tiny. I add my lettering only after creating the card in the finished size. I may manipulate the image and add the decoration at a bigger size, but I always use the finished size to add my lettering.

Hope that helps.

Hi Ruth,

I use the adobe CS4 package with Illustrator & Photoshop. I find that once I create the image in illustrator which allows me to make fonts almost any size and convert it to .jpg . I can open the .jpg and change the image and canvas size to suite my needs. This can convert a small or large file into the right size or trim off ruff edges.

Ruth (Yes another one.)

I also use PhotoShop Elements and put the text on last and then resize as needed. You are right, the fonts installed on the computer aren't great, so finding additional fonts is a great idea. I tend to use the same fonts, which look redundant.

cheers,
elizabeth
