Effective today, we have added to the Create a Card process an image rights acceptance checkbox.  Artists will need to check this box with each card created acknowledging that you have the rights to use the image that you are submitting.
 
This will facilitate the review process for our card review staff by knowing that artists are aware of, have submitted to and have been notified of their image responsibilities.  It will also prove as a guideline and a reminder to participating artists.
 
Artists' Image Responsibilities - By submitting images you, the Artist, represent to have complete rights or permission to use/sell this image. It is your responsibility to insure that your images do not infringe on the copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, trade dress, right of publicity or other legal right of any third party. GCUniverse reviews cards for image quality and appropriateness. GCUniverse does not do extensive research nor decide upon legal rights of Artists' images.
 
As stated in the T & C's, GCUniverse does not tolerate the copying of another artist's creative work, which includes art, image and verse.  GCUniverse reserves the right to terminate an artist who violates these conditions from using our site and services.  
 
In a nutshell, the checkbox and rollover text say:
I submit that I have the rights to use this image in this manner
 
By checking the box you agree that you either own the rights to this image or have attained the proper license or permissions to use this image commercially, on paper greeting cards for resale.  With respect to stock, royalty free and clip art images you have confirmed in the terms of use or with the original artist that you can use this image in this manner and are using proper accreditation if specified.  Any legal implications for image misuse is the sole responsibility and liability of the submitting artist.

I put up some cards last night that are still pending. The box was not there at that point. Will it effect, or is it effecting their acceptance at this point? Thanks.

I don't think the cards that were submitted before the change will be affected.  I think this is a good idea as it protects GCU of any copyright infringements and places it on the artists.  One of my pictures had a logo that I had edited out prior to submitting the card.  I was a bit surprised that this wasn't in place at the get go.

I find it annoying if I forget to click the box to scroll all the way back up.  And it's also annoying to have to click it each time we go to edit a card that we have to click the box again.  Maybe make it on the uploads page so that once a photo is uploaded the box is already clicked for that image and does not have to be clicked so many times.  Example, the 3 card image rule.  You are using the image and have already clicked the box but for the next card using the same image you have to click the box again.  That is  just annoying.  I'm not saying it's bad that we have to accept the rights but it's annoying we have to accept it so many times esp. if it's already been accepted on that image.
