Custom Cards Categories
Nov 15th, 2011, 1:38pm

Please, please could we have a rethink on the categories for custom front cards that are not photo cards?

I've just made a birthday card which could be for any adult at any age, but because we are not allowed to put 'your text here', I had to make it for a specific person and age-specific.

This means that a search will only bring it up for someone looking for that particular person and age - so I  might as well not have gone to the trouble of making it customisable!  Angry

For the sake of consistency, wouldn't it make much more sense to have a 'custom front' sub-category for all the major card categories, in the same way as we have 'photo card' categories? They're really both the same thing except one includes photo uploads and the other one doesn't.

You got my vote.  There is a category (but it is for all custom text front cards) is Collections » Custom Personalized Cards.

My birthday monogram custom card was placed in Birthday » Name Specific » A  because I just happened to use the letter A as a placeholder text. The second category that it was placed in was Collections » Custom Personalized Cards » Other Personalization.

Judy, that's a great idea!
How about this idea too: Create all age-specific birthday cards as custom cards. That way the customer can fill in the age and GCU won't have 100 cards of the same design to deal with. We're glutted as it is.

This is a grand idea, and the perfect way to use the new custom text tool for our greeting cards!

I agree.  "Custom" categories are definitely needed in each section to alleviate these problems.  I hope this can be done.

If we follow the guideline that tells us to categorise and describe a card 'as it is' and not 'as it could be', we need to be able to categorise it as 'customizable', because that is 'what it is'.

To describe and categorise it as a 'birthday card for a 74 year old grandfather', is describing it 'as it could be', along with other things it could be if the customer so decided - which we are not supposed to do.
