Photo Card Color Options
Aug 9th, 2011, 5:45am

Hi, I am wondering if the photo cards will be treated the same with the 3 times rule as greeting cards? I think that one design should be offered in alot of colors so folks can match up their photos to the background. I see on all the other photo cards sites the option for quite alot of colors, same design. Will this be the case at GCU? If not I suppose customers could contact us for a specific color but that seems more time consuming than I think people would take. We could offer that option in our artists notes but again I don't see ease of the process for the customer. Smiley Thank You.

As for myself, I'm more curious about categories and keywords, as now that customers can edit their text, I think it would make a lot of sense if we were allowed to add all keywords that the card might match. For example, I have several designs that would work for birthday, anniversary, class-reunion, friendship, missing you, and more, depending on the text that is added. This would get the card a wider audience than just in one category.
Guess that's asked too much  Roll Eyes

We will be holding to the same 3 color variations permitted.  It will be up to you to design the cards in broad range that meets many markets/situations.  And of course note in your Artist Notes that other colors available by request.

As for keywords, we're sticking to the traditional rules on that too.  Keywords should describe the look, design, and explicit occasion.  If your design is general enough to speak to any occasion depending on the photos inserted than your keywords should be general too.  As we advise, describe what your card is not what it can be.

IMHO it wouldn't hurt to show a customer all cards that "can be" used for their occasion, as it would only increase GCU's selection, but I bow to the rules. What else can I do, except asking for additional categories "Occasions>General" and "Holidays>General" instead (just kidding)

Still wondering how to handle the text we insert in the text areas. I assume it would not be ok to just say "Your text here", but what about a text like "Season's greatings from the Millers"? Is it ok in this case to make up parts of the text that need to be replaced?

Monica,

Yes, GCU prefers that artists use real names and relationships as the placeholder text vs instructional placeholder text such as your example of "Your Text Here"

Thanks for asking. It's sure to save some artists the frustration of having their cards returned for changes.
