Hi Jeannette,

One of the things I like to do is play with colours and patterns. I do this to get inspired. It's a random way to allow colours to inspire you. I do this at colourlovers.com (http://www.colourlovers.com/lover/MoonDreams). I also take inspiration from the great artists out there (paintings, sculpture, architecture).

If I'm in a slump, I'll also try reading a book. One that forces your mind to create these wild, imaginative worlds. William Shakespeare, Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, Elizabeth Gaskell and Lucy Laud Montgomery are some of my favourites. Their language is so descriptive, my mind just paints these pictures.

Music also inspires me. Every time I listen to a song, my mind plays this "film" to it. I see people, places, actions, all of it. Any one of these things can get me back into designing.

Hope this helps,

Jannina

Hi Jeannette -

On the whole, to make sales, customers need to find our cards quickly when they use the GCU on-site search facility.

One thing that brings our cards to the top of the pile (ie the first page) when a customer searches, is the number of clicks the card has had. If you do a search on the GCU website, you'll notice that most of the cards that come up on the first page are by artists who joined GCU at the beginning so they've had the most time to 'collect' clicks on their cards. And then they are likely to get clicked on again, so in a way, it's self-perpetuating and harder for us who joined later to catch up!

Other things that count towards bringing cards up on the early pages are the number of times a card has been bought, favourited, chosen as a GCU staff pick and so on - all things you can build up over time.

The challenge for us relative newbies is to make sure we are getting those 'clicks' on our cards by using social networking and blogs, for instance. It's hard work, but it all helps!  Wink
