Return for Edits and I don't agree
Apr 12th, 2011, 7:56am

Hey everyone.  I just got of couple of "return for edits" on some cards I submitted.  The reason stated was that the reviewer felt they were nearly identical.  I disagreed with this.  They were the same dog, but different expressions and in one case different expressions and different sentiments on the front of the card.  I'm NOT looking to be snarky.  Are the cards similar? Sure but not identical by any means and certainly not the identical card addressed to different family members...Dear Aunt, Daughter, Mom, Sister on the front which fill the galleries here.

Anyone have any luck disagreeing with the reason for the return? I'm really NOT looking to be a pain or difficult, but I was disappointed that the different cards may not be able to be displayed.

Thanks!

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

I would write a note back to the reviewer for more clarification. Looking at your store, you have cards with the same pictures, just different sentiments. That means they have been approved before. Perhaps it is a category or keyword issue? Either way, I would reach out to GCU about it.

Take care,

There are always going to be situations where the reviewer will disagree.  I submitted this card

and the reviewer didn't think it should be in a 'child' category.  I wrote back that I felt the font and wording referring to small, etc did relate to a child.  They reconsidered and approved it.

So yes, you will have occasions, but just tactfully point out why you feel they are different cards.

Exactly!  Jesus said, "Ask and you shall receive."  However that doesn't always work at GCU, but if you ask nice, and have a good argument as to why, they may very well accept it.  The reviewers see a lot of cards and after a while it is hard to catch little differences which at first glance may seem to be the same image, but as you point out, an entirely different sentiment with the expressions in this case.

I have an old log house which I did in black & white as well as color, which is an even more subtle difference in image, bordering on being just a color variation thing, but the reviewer went ahead and approved it after I explained why i had two similar images, but was trying to convey two really different sentiments.

They could have very well stuck to their guns and I would of had to agree with them, but they took my side with reservations though as they noted in the comment.  They're human, most of the time, just as we are, and as in life, rules usually are only guidelines with some individual interpretations allowed.

Best always, Randy

Hey Wendy,

I can understand how you're feeling, I have had a lot of return for edits lately and have not agreed with the comments either.

I appreciate the suggestion the reviewers put forward to view the GCU Wiki but on some occasions I have felt that they do not understand that art is open to interpretation. What I have seen in a drawing I have submitted on a card design has been completely missed by a reviewer and therefore has been rejected in a category even when I have explained the drawing in the Artist's Comments field.

A couple of times I have just decided to make the changes as requested, a few I have just deleted out of frustration.

Trish, I really liked your Chihuahua card. The message inside is great.

I hope you can sort out your card issue Wendy, it may be a simple fix as mentioned by other replies where if you reply to the reviewer and explain why you think your card should be approved maybe they will reconsider?

Best of luck  Smiley

Yes, an email to the review team cardreview@greetingcarduniverse.com for a second look is always welcome.  Be sure to include your pid#s in your email so they can locate them quickly.

If you have not done so already, this video on 3x Image Use Rule may be helpful to view re: identical and near identical images:
