Good thread going here in regard to selling your fine art, different than selling greeting cards or designs printed on T-shirts.
Thanks for the info on Fine Art America, I went in and liked what I saw and got started posting a couple of pieces.  Now I need to go to my regular website and do some housecleaning there and create some easily understood links to my various sites, GCU being my card store, Zazzle for a little of this and that, and Fine Art for the art.
Fine Art America has the greeting card feature, but if you do text on your greeting cards, it more than likely won't sell as an art piece and I didn't see that you can create verse for the inside of the cards.  Basically it's just an option if a buyer wants an inexpensive 5x7 of your work.  I marked my cards up on singles at $1.00 which puts the price of a card at $4.95 which is somewhat expensive for a card, of course the value is, you're getting one of my great pieces of work.  lol
However, if a buyer is buying 10 or 25 cards, Fine Art America's price seemed quite reasonable even after I added a 50 cent and 40 cent markup respectively to the cards.  I'll be happy with a $5 or $10 sale for a P.O.D. image.
Another thing I noticed at Fine Art America, the site has a huge number of artists compared to some of the other sites.  Just in El Cajon alone which is a small 90,000 population community outside of San Diego, there are around a dozen artists featuring work there and in all of San Diego, there must be over a hundred artists.  We could actually put together a sizeable show with all the locals.  lol
Anyway, thank you guys for sharing all this good info back and forth and wish you all success at selling your art.  It's the selling that keeps us going so we can buy more tools for our creative impulses.  After all, the first reason we do it is for the joy it brings us sharing our perspective of the world, secondly is nurturing our creative ego, but the third we forget about sometimes, we have to cover our costs monetarily and it's nice to eat once in a while!
Best always, Randy

Worth a mention....With the free account on FAA once you hit 25 images you can't offer any more prints etc unless you upgrade to the pro account which has an annual fee. However you can keep changing which images you offer as a print but there will only ever be 25 at a time on a free account so if you have 100's of images that's a lot of changing around.

Actually, your partially right according to the way I read the limitations.  That's for prints you can offer directly.  However, for the P.O.D. you can upload as many images as you like.  here's what the website there at FAA says,

"There is no limit on the number of images that you may upload!

Images may be any pixel size (e.g. 1600 x 1200).   If you will be participating in our print-on-demand program, you are encouraged to upload larger images in order to offer the largest range of print sizes.   We currently accept images in the following formats: .jpg, .jpeg.   Each uploaded image must be 20 MB or less."

When you go in and upload an image, it will walk you through several areas the first being whether or not you offer your original or prints directly.  There it says that with the free membership, you are limited to only 25 images that you can offer directly.

I think Kenneth said it costs $60 per year, but I could only find the one option with your own personal webpage free of advertising, submission to Google ad words, unlimited direct sales, and a 10% commision on all the extras a customer may include to have the image matted and framed as well as several other benefits for $30 per year.  i think very reasonable for all the benefits!  Just one print you sell that a customer say orders a $70 frame, a $25 mat, on stretched canvas another $22 and so on.  Say a $150 picture done for a customer could net you whatever your print markup, which they pay 100% of, say $25 in this case, plus 10% of the extras, so you would get another $11.20 for this sale.

Two or three sales a year and your $30 is covered with just the 10% commision.

Anyway, that's the way I read into the program.  Now only if it works!  LOL

Best Always, Randy

Maybe you misunderstood what I said....Yes, you can upload as many images as you like but you can only offer 25 of those images as POD on the free account. However you can keep changing which images you want as those 25....I know, I just tried it today.

Basically on the free account if you upload 100 images you can choose 25 for POD, if you change your mind you can take 3 off and add 3 new ones. So long as you only have 25 at a time.

Here's an example: this is what you get if you include an image in the 25.

This is what you get if you upload an image but not include it in the 25.
(note the text about "Buy the original photograph with "Direct from the artist" link.

I too read that it was $30 annually for unlimited POD and website so I don't know what the $60 is for.

PS After you put an image up go look at in public view and click the pdf icon....What a great idea! You can even send that out to people.

I uploaded a few things at Fineartamerica this week and wondered if anyone here has experience with them?

I have been on FAA for 2 years now,,, and  even though the fee for unlimited Pieces is 30.00. Its worth it.. Customers have bought Large prints or canvas prints of my art .. you get a very fine commission.. not just for the art but also for the frame they purchased. So even if you sell one large piece,, it pays for the yearly fee. Its well worth it. They are quite pricey.
