Cards darker than they show online
Dec 22nd, 2010, 4:14pm

Hi,

I up loaded some Christmas cards with my dogs on the cover. They look fine on 4 different computers. I had some printed and they print very dark. To dark for me to send to my family and friend. Has any one else had this problem?

Hi Robert,

Your dog cards are adorable, though they do look too dark on my screen which is calibrated to RGB.  As a general rule of thumb, I have found that cards from GCU print exactly as seen on my screen.

If I were you I would lighten your mid-tones on all of them, they don't appear to have the 'punch' that they should...and they are so wonderful, they should really pop off the screen.

I speak as a trained photographer, perhaps others can give you better advice.

Hi Robert,

I am also a photographer and I have to agree with Doreen. My monitor is also calibrated, using a Spyder colorimeter but there are others. To me, your dogs look very cute but they are too dark. You do need to lighten the midtones, but my guess is that the shadows are clipped as well and you may have areas of almost solid black, particularly in your miniature collie photos. It's hard to see your dog's lovely eyes in these photos.

Hope that this helps. Of course, these are just suggestions.

Cheers,

Rosanne

I've been using picnik.com to lighten and colorize my photos. Works really fast and uploads 5 at a time for free.
