Tips for Card template and bleed area on cards
Nov 8th, 2010, 8:58am

I noticed some posts about template and bleed area on cards and thought I would share what I worked out for a template that works well for me.  Not only for keeping important parts of my design from being cut off when printed, but also for a more balanced design.

I put the information file and a psd template on my idisk and it will be available for a few days.

Click on this link and an instruction pdf file will download to your computer from my idisk:  https://files.me.com/cheldelink/tx81wl

Click on this link and a sample psd (photoshop) file template will download to your computer: https://files.me.com/cheldelink/6qr4il

This is the first time I've tried putting files from my idisk in a forum.  So hope you can access them.  If not, let me know and I will try something else.

Hope this is helpful especially to those of you who are new to creating designs for printing that have a bleed area.  I really struggled with it when I first started designing books a few years ago.  I appreciate all the artists who have helped me and find that I learn something new everyday!

What I do is very simple...I just put guides all around at 1/4".  I make certain my design elements stay inside those guides.  Works for me.

Thank you for sharing, while other have their own methods this will certainly help the ones who don't or who were not sure how to go about it...

Thanks Kathleen. I do know how to set my bleed BUT I always like to see how someone else does it. Thanks for sharing.
