Mindy, please help with review guideline

Dear Mindy,
 
I am new at GCU and have enjoyed creating and posting my cards on GCU thus far but now I have run into a quandary.  
 
One of my primary markets is to people who enjoy classic Chinese words on the cover and the English translation on the front and inside, along with a message. I would like to list these cards both in English and non-English subcategories.
 
Currently, I have a card, #689874 was returned to be edited because the Review Team 443 stated the card cannot be listed in the non-English category unless I removed the English text inside. I have had other cards with Chinese character on the front and English text inside and currently showing in my shop.  Has rules been changed recently?  Does it mean I can only list my cards with Chinese characters on the front as blank note cards in order to be in the non-English subcategory?
 
My concerns are these:  
• Please set the review standard once and for all. Can a card to be listed in non-English subcategory when it has both Chinese character and English on the front and English text inside?  Since I have had cards approved previously and plan to continue creating cards in this style, I hope you can set             this record straight so I don’t have to go through this “return for edits” again and again.  
 
• It took eleven days to hear from review team originally, and five days have passed since I sent my requests to the team to reconsider their decision.  After the second E-mail to state my request, I have not heard from the team. I feel as if I am being stonewalled.  
 
• Due to the delay, I can’t order this card with the current free shipping offer prior to leaving on a business trip to meet with potential buyers.  
 
Thank you for your assistance in this matter and I look forward to a successful relationship with GCU.

Diana,
You CAN get those cards just the way you want them IMMEDIATELY.  
 
1) Upload the card as usual
 
2) click "Private Gallery", Wave review
 
3) Do your thing with the inside message
 
Your card will be available to you (or anyone who goes into your private gallery) IMMEDIATELY.
 
I have used this method when I( or a client) needs a card quick.  The drawback is that it isn't available to the general public in your regular card gallery.  So if you use this method, make sure you upload 2 cards, one for the general population (but has to go thru the review proccess), and one for the "wave review private gallery (available immediately).

Thank you Linda for coming to the rescue for her immediate need.
 
As for the question re: Non-English vs English categories here is the rule:
o if a card is written in a language other than English then it must reside in a Non-English / Other Languages category only
 
The goal is that shoppers looking for cards that are in English should not have to wade through page after page of cards that are not in English, and vice versa.
 
The fact that your card has a non-English character on it muddies the waters just a bit.  But if we reflect back on the reason why we do this then the rule still applies.  Your card is still versed in English and should not reside in the Non-English / Other Languages subcategory.
 
My suggestion to you for this specific card is:
Occasions >> Congratulations >> Wedding / Marriage >> General / Bride & Groom
Collections >> Animals / Pets >> Birds  
OR
Occasions >> Congratulations >> Wedding / Marriage >> General / Bride & Groom
Collections >> Asian Arts
 
AND consider creating a version of this card with your inside verse in Chinese (assuming you can do that with great confidence) which would go here:
Occasions >> Congratulations >> Wedding / Marriage >> Non-English / Other Languages >> Chinese
Collections >> Non-English / Other Languages >> Chinese
 
A couple of additional things to note...
1) many shoppers will shop by keyword search so "chinese wedding congratulations" or "asian theme wedding" will always result in a more targeted collection for the shopper;'s consideration so be sure to use those kinds of keywords.
2) if you do create inside verse in Chinese be sure to include an English translation in the Artist's Notes field because many shoppers buying non-English cards do not understand the language themselves but are sending them to someone who does.
 
Where this does get even trickier and we have allowed some exceptions is when the occasion itself is inherently non-English for example: Chinese New Year, Eid, etc.  where we have permitted some cards with both (English & Non-English) some crossover.  These have caused us much head scratching and the review team does their best to reflect on what would best serve the shopper.
 
Hope that helps, please let us know if there is a collection of cards that needs sorting out.  I will reinforce this with the review team members so we're on the same page.

I have had similar issues with cards I create with Sanskrit characters on the front and translation & verse inside. My thinking is this: the character on the front is seen as artwork. My card is directed at English speakers with an interest in Indian culture. Just as an image of a heart has a translation which means "love", our caligraphy is a visually pleasing icon with a meaning. I tried to put my cards in both english &  non english catagories, and the non enlish was accepted first; thus disqualifying the card to be put in english, which is really my target audience. Once I realized that the caligraphy was "art" it made it easier for me to see what my goal was.
As far as the time delay: everyone is submitting cards for the holidays and everything is going to take a while until they are over, i suspect. No one is stonewalling you. They are too nice for that here.  
Some reviewers are more sticky about details than others. I try to stay within the bounds as I understand them, and if I have an issue, I bring it up. It can be frustrating, but mostly the people at gsu are supercool.
