Alphabetical Name Specific Sub-Categories
Sep 12th, 2010, 3:58pm

Is it possible to get cards in name specific sub-categories (there is a sub-category for every letter of the alphabet) to show alphabetically?

While it is always nice to see the newest or most popular cards if you are looking for a specific name it would be more helpful if they were alphabetical. As a shopper I would look for the name first then see how many choices are available for that name.

I realise that a search of the name will also find these cards but it also finds all other cards in other categories with the same name. If you are only looking in one category for a particular type of card it would be easier for shoppers to search through all of the "A" listings alphabetically like the sub-category implies. Particularly if they are looking for an unpopular name that may end up at the back of 6 or 7 pages.

Thanks
Deborah

Being a dog photographer, I would find adding dog breeds especially helpful!

The "search this category" is nifty for these kinds of searches.  I use it much of the time for finding specific flowers in specific categories.  If you go to birthday>A and use search this category for Alice, you get only Alice birthday cards.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that. I have just had a much harder look and found the search this category button which I had not noticed on previous occasions (I was looking but only noticed the search all categories). It might be helpful if this was made a little more obvious, maybe bold or highlighted. If I couldn't see it while looking for something of this kind then shoppers may not notice it either.

I see what you are saying.  Unfortunately the only way to automatically do that would be to alphabetize on a card data field like Card Title however that won't necessarily provide a true list either since card titles vary.

As Kati's pointed out, an effective solution is to use the Search this Category feature next to the onsite search box.  So for example when in Birthdays >> Name Specific >> A (w/ 1,339 cards) using this option and the term "Aaron" narrows it down to 15 Birthday Cards for Aaron.

I had realised that this might be difficult to do since not everyone has put the name at the start of their card title but had hoped that since most card titles in these categories are the same except the names that it might be possible to achieve.

Personally I am not to concerned and find the forum very helpful for work around solutions but can't help thinking that a shopper is unlikely to check the forum for easy ways to find a card and will use what is already available.
