Penny, I do feel for you in your frustration!

What has confused me most is the inconsistency in the review process.

for instance, recently I have been uploading some 'improved' versions of cards that I uploaded when I first joined GCU last December. When I looked back at the keywords, the titles and the closeness to the edge of the designs, I can't imagine how they were ever approved! I'm quite sure they would have been returned for edits if I'd submitted them now. And yet some of them have been sold.

I do appreciate the help the reviewers give us in making our cards more accessible to customers but, as you say, they often seem to totally misunderstand what we are doing and sometimes don't seem to be in touch with what people are likely to search for!

Yes, this is exactly the problem.  I spend a good bit of time trying to learn SEO and researching how people search, etc.  Then to have someone totally disregard what I've worked hard on to change it to something that has much less value for SEO is very frustrating.  I don't expect a reviewer to know all about every type of art and SEO out there, but I do wish that GCU would understand that some artists DO know about their art and the art of SEO.  Yup, still stewing over the "treatment" line...that's like saying impressionalism is a "treatment".  Arg.  The one big reason I don't shoot weddings or on commission is because I like control over my art.  More and more, working with GCU is more like shooting a wedding and less like beign an independant artist.

Shocked)I've been around since I coined "Will you?" in 2007  in the bridesmaid category, thankfully that was accepted "way back then"...one of my most popular cards!   and a most used phrase...we definitely need the freedom of creativity to continue to spur on sales!
I am thinking that there has to be a simple answer for all of this time consumption! and misunderstanding between the two realms here!
Because this IS an awesome site, and a best selling site!but there definitely is a stunt here in the time it takes to have our cards approved.
I will continue to play here. I love the yard! but, speaking up is something that has to be free for growth to continue.
The funny thing is just yesterday i had an awesome turn around fast approval...while making more for the same category I realized I had misspelled a word on the front of the one, fast approved card! Of course, when I caught my own mistake I re did the card and fixed it, We are all so human, but if some of the finickiness would be toned down maybe we all could sell more cards faster!
Happily creating, slowly waiting,
Sandy
Muah to reviewers and artists, have a happy Saturday!

My category frustration last year for my new GCU was astounding. I sell to the culinary crowd, and they only come out at  Christmas; GCU didn't really understand my customers, exhibited by their lack of an appropriate category. I've done battle with a few reviewers and got myself a decent Christmas category now, but I still dread review time. If I put "Merry Whiskmas" or "Seasons Eatings" on something - hoo, boy, I think a reviewer's head explodes when I do that. Well, break out the bandages, folks, because I'm going to sell a heck of a lot of cards again this season, and I'm uploading early.
