Holiday card spelling
Jul 11th, 2010, 6:47am

Hi everyone-

After the recent controversy about the spelling of grandparents day, I was wondering if there is anywhere to check other correct spellings Specifically, Happy Holiday's or Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings or Seasons Greetings. Thanks for any help you can provide! Smileycat

When in doubt either look at the GCU card category names themselves or a growing reference here on the wiki page under Tips:

Mindy that's kind of what got me in trouble in the first place... on the Home page under the card for Grandparents Day it says "Grandparent's Day"... and actually so does the card displayed there.

Hi Rita..  I see what you mean..  Whoa!  lol...

After looking through that category I am amazed at the variations of spelling..

On another site I am on it is "Grandparents" w/o the 's in it.. But I see here on the Home page it does have the 's.. Hummmm..  Huh

Perhaps submit both and see which one sticks & which one comes back at you?    Wink

This is one of those times when it would be fine if the reviewer just modified it to be acceptable to the site and let you know.. Sometimes they change mine for me and other times they send it back for me to do.. Never really sure which way it will go..  Looking forward to seeing which way is the correct way.. here.

Yes, I can see how that is confusing.  We will update the homepage shortly.

There is more than 1 acceptable way to punctuate Grandparents Day, as well as other holiday names for that matter, so they are not incorrect per se.  However GCU has researched the most generally used and has put a stake in the ground to set our standard to be used as a guideline.

There are older cards on the site that deviate from our established category name guideline.  We hope those artists will edit their cards to follow suit but we do not require it.  They do however run the risk as their cards become the minority in the category to appear to a shopper as being incorrect and missing out on sales.
