down side to adding cards to the blog
Mar 17th, 2010, 2:56pm

i see there are some artists who do not like the sell this card feature and i have added 1 maybe more of their cards.  i will go through the cards and remove them, but this will make me more selective in my card choices so as not to offend anyone.  oh well a bump in the road.  as i read the other day.  it's all a matter of perspective... Yes, Denise, I read those posts with interest. I'm not quite sure why someone would be so upset about someone else advertising their cards. Seems to me that the more exposure an individual artist gets, the better chance they have of making sales. Isn't that what we're here for? They will still get their 56 cents... so, if you or anyone else is rewarded for increasing their sales, so what? Isn't that basically what GCU is already doing... advertising our cards and making money on us?

Okay, that's just my 2 cents!  Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged, Denise.

Denise, I as well believe in this type of promotion.  So if I have any cards you'd like to post, please feel free to help make us both some extra cash!

Well it's made me think. undecided
I think there is a valid point being made since you really do lose control over where your cards reside. Not all sites are as acceptable as Denise's. Your cards really could end up anywhere and if googled and found amongst some 'questionable' content you may be associated with it also. Might be bad for a business person.
I can certainly see a conflict for the professional artist here and also could come across as cheapening an artists work.
There needs to be an opt out for anyone with concerns.

thank you , i was adamant when this feature first started that the referring artist should never make more than the original artist.  with that resolved i saw it as a win win for the artist, the referring artist and the site.

but, i remember when i first came here being uneasy with the widgets.  advertising is expensive and exposure is hard to come by.  i have very few of my own cards on my blog.. the victorian and maybe 10 others total.  it is going to make it hard to choose some of the buried treasures if i have to wonder if the artist will be unhappy about me adding their card.  it will look like i am favoring certain artists, but that may have to be the case.

i am so busy now that if it takes much time i won't be able to keep it up.  the easiest way will be to keep a list of people who say okay and shop their stores.  but i am afraid that will leave out some of the very people i wanted to promote..those of us who are in the shadows.   undecided

As I said on the other thread, we have always had the option to put other artists card in our widget and add them to any site out there. No, I probably wouldn't like my cards being shown on an adult web site, but that's the way it's been for quite ahile. Not sure how they could do an "opt-out" for that, but I suppose that would be fair. You can post my cards on your sites all you want!

I ditto everything everyone has brought up....exposure is everything! I have to wonder why an adult site would want to put up our designs....most of the cards we artists make would be too prim and proper to do their sites any justice.....IMO...I would be thrilled an flattered that someone thought enough of my art to want to include!

Yes, I don't think I have anything an adult site would want either Grin
I do agree promotion is everything and am staying in and see how it goes. I just meant I could see a potential conflict for some and an opt out would be fair to them.

I don't see why an adult site would even be interested in selling greeting cards, it's not what the customer goes there for so I don't see that it would be a plus for them. I really think it's making a mountain out of a mole hill. *shrug* Perhaps other sites might clash like if there was an atheist blog/site and your religious cards were being shown, that might clash.

But I still say pimp my wares wherever you like.  Cheesy
