Where do i turn this off?
Mar 17th, 2010, 1:55pm

Okay absolutely not, I want this global preference turned off (THAT DOLLAR SIGN, SELL THIS CARD, ADD THIS LINK TO THEIR SITE), I dont think its fair that ANYbody, can make 50 cents off one of my cards, when I make only max 56 cents on a card and even less if quanity is purchased.

I dont appreciate someone taking advantage of my work and profiting off it when they had nothing to do with it. I work to darn hard just creating something unique, uploading, and making up inner verses.

Firstly I dont know where they might put it, a porn site, or a site I am against or dont believe in.
This is my store and I shoud have the right to choose this feature option. I searched global references and dont see an opt out button.

This is a very serious issue with me and will cause me to leave if thier isnt an opt out on this feature.
Please contact me immediately.

Where is this "thing" you are referring to?  I can't see it on your shop? I've never seen it on anyone's store???

Thank you for agreeing.

Go to your store front and under each card is several symbols, at far right is one that is a dollar sign.
Click on it and it offers 2 link options and says :

Copy and paste this code below to your website or blog to link to this card on GCU. You will earn 50 cents for each card sold through this link

I just went to several ppls sites and it shows up on them all!

Does this mean that it will be possible to create a mini store on an external website of your favorite cards by other artists and make money from the sales of their cards (of course in addition to your own)?
-Mishka

Yes, it does make it much easier to post cards on blogs, lenses, your personal sites, etc.  The artist gets commission if their cards sell and you would receive commission for driving that customer to our site.

This also helps us pick up links pointing to GCU, which can help increase our visibility with search engine crawlers.

Both methods will incorporate your card seller ID so you will receive the card seller commission of 50 cents per card for any sales made through these links, helping you earn more from the traffic that you send us, even if the customer does not purchase your cards.

The seller commission works for any and all cards that the customer purchases on the initial order, with a maximum commission of $25 per order.

For example, if the customer finds your blog and clicks on an image of a card they like, they will get directed to that card on GCU.  Say they add that card, quantity of 1 to the cart, and then find 9 other cards they also add to the cart, and then check out.  You will earn $.50 for each card the customer purchased on that order, for a total of $5.00 for simply referring the customer.  If they were all your cards that were purchased, then you earn both the card seller's commission $5.00 as well as the artist's commission $5.60, for a total of $10.60 for that order!  (assuming there were no discounts or promo codes involved in the order)

I like to call this above scenario 'double dipping' and unlike with chips & dip... we not only encourage double dipping, but we celebrate it!

So they make money off us, and they can make up a whole store of other ppls cards and profit off us!

NO WAY!

I agree I wouldn't want people making a profit off my cards, well that much of a profit.  Also as you state people who promote your cards may also promote things which you don't want to be associated with.

Although on the plus side, I suppose it means we can promote our own cards and earn double the profit??

I hadn't heard of this before and I've been through my emails and I didn't receive this notice.

Um... just to let you know, this is how GCU has operated from at least almost two years ago when I joined. They have always had an option for people to put a GCU widget on what ever blog site or facebook or whatever site to sell GCU cards and make commission...even if they did not have a store here. It's a way that GCU can advertise cards to a far bigger audience. They just now have where you can put one card at a time on a blog. You are still getting the exact same commission, it's Greeting Card Universe that is losing the money.

1) Card Widget
Add this widget to your blog or website to showcase your cards.
You must have at least one card in your store to use this widget.  The widget will randomly display up to 20 cards based on your card selection.
Store Selection: My Store Only  or All Stores
2) I just went to someone elses store and couldnt find a way to grab their widget so i think you are mistaken.

You may be able to attain a overall GCU widget of the site but as far as i can tell not an individuals or profit from them.
Also a widget on another site is not a PROFIT device for others to take advantage of my (or others work), that is simply promotion. Creating a page and listing someone elses works and profiting from them is infringing copyright!

In fact is has always been set in my description on all my cards:

O.k., you are right about having to have a store with GCU, but you can chose the option of including other arists cards in your widgit. It's right there when you click "Random" on your widget choice. I know this is correct because I have sold other people's cards from my widget before... and I'm sure other artists have as well. Look at it this way: Let's say you have a blog about pet care. You chose some cute pet cards to post by other artists, including one of my kitty cards. You have over 1000 hits to your blog per day. You have 1000 customers extra to see my card per day then I would have had. Your blog sells 50 of my cat cards. You make 25.00, I make 28.00. I'm thrilled with the extra publicity, and the extra sales! I'm not losing any money, and people will know it's my card because when they click on it, it has my name and store information.

Hi Lisa,

This functionality has been available for over 2 years through the Card Widgets.  Anyone can sign up for a Card Seller account, then create a widget containing ANY GCU card that they would like to display.

Card Sellers do not need to have a store at GCU in order to create a widget, anyone can create one.    This new feature is simply adding to that functionality as an expansion our Card Seller program.

The commission structure for the "Sell This Card" feautre is exactly the same as that of the card widgets, where the seller receives 50 cents for each card sold and the artist receives their standard commission as well.

Angela is correct.  Anyone who wishes to sign up as a Card Seller creates a widget with whatever cards or specific store they choose.  Though they become a member of GCU, they do not have to create a store just to sell cards.

This really is no different than Zazzle or any other affiliate program, in fact for the artists it's better because you are not having the affiliate percentage taken from your commission as is the case in many programs, including Zazzle.  With this GCU feature, you can put specific cards of your own on blogs, websites and such and get $1.06 per card for that new customer order rather than just .56 cents.

This type of program drives tremendous traffic and sales which benefit everyone, thus the reason you'll be hard-pressed to find an online place like GCU or Zazzle that doesn't have this type of program...its what works.   50% of my sales at Zazzle are referrals and if someone hadn't liked my product enough to add it to their Squidoo Lens or Blog, then those are all sales I wouldn't have made.

I agree that if GCU can offer an opt-out for the few artists that don't wish to participate that would be a good thing.

steve, i looked and i do not see an opt out feature yet.

i have removed the one card i had of Gilleans' and two i had of Steve's from the blog.  if any of you see a card of yours there i have missed please let me know and i will remove it.  lisa i did not see any of yours but you are free to double check me.    http://dbvisualarts.blogspot.com

i meant no offense, i hoped to bring some of the little known gems and treasure cards out into the light and this was the best option we have right now. if it had cut into your profits i would never have added it, i was very opposed to getting more or even equal to the actual artist for promoting their cards.   i am sorry.
