New Feature: "Sell This Card"
Jan 20th, 2010, 6:28pm

Hi Everyone,
In the past we've received requests for an easy way to allow artists to create links to their cards and receive card seller credit if a shopper purchases cards through the link.  It's just another way to promote and earn card seller credits other than your Artist Widget.  We've now created a simple way for artists to obtain these links.

In the coming days we'll be adding a new "$" icon below the card title on our category pages, as well as a "Sell This Card" link on the card detail pages.  Clicking this icon and link will provide you with 2 options:

1. A text link to the card
2. A block of html code that displays the thumbnail image, which links to the card on GCU

Both methods will incorporate your card seller ID so you will receive the card seller commission of 50 cents per card for any sales made through these links, helping you earn more from the traffic that you send us, even if the customer does not purchase your cards.

The conditions for being awarded a seller commission from these links are the same as the card widget (commission will not be awarded if the shopper is already a member of GCU).   You can view our full Card Sellers FAQ here:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/help/card_seller_faq.asp

Please Note: The icon and link will ONLY be visible to artists (although card sellers may gain this feature at some point in the future)

If you have any questions about this new feature please let us know.

Shaun

Does this mean that it will be possible to create a mini store on an external website of your favorite cards by other artists and make money from the sales of their cards (of course in addition to your own)?

This is still being discussed internally, I'll follow up when I have info.

The link can be to any card on the site not just your own cards, just like artists are able to do with the widget

Yes, it does make it much easier to post cards on blogs, lenses, your personal sites, etc.  The artist gets commission if their cards sell and you would receive commission for driving that customer to our site.

This also helps us pick up links pointing to GCU, which can help increase our visibility with search engine crawlers

just my thoughts here but i would not want to earn more on the card than the artist did.  since bulk sales take their profits down.. i don't know that i think it is right for us to still get .50 a card...  ** ducking stones now...****

Denise,
Great point! Smiley
I am happy to stand up as a target on that last thought also. Whilst driving business to another's card is may be the catalyst for the bulk sale. The artist should remain the most compensated since it is their creative or thoughtful work that has secured the sale.

Thanks for the feedback.  We're still in the process of finalizing the commission structure for sellers.  Once that's complete we will move this feature live.
