Card Review Question
Mar 16th, 2010, 5:13pm

A quick question on card review process.  I realize there is a wait and cards are approved in some kind of order that may vary at times.  However, I just noticed that the numbers on the current new cards page are over 2000 of the numbers on the cards I submitted for review a week ago.

Current (March 14, 15) cards approved are in the 590000+ range.
Cards I submitted start in 587480 range.

Why is there such a large discrepancy?

Thanks,
Kati

I've been trying to submit some everyday so there is not such a long wait in between.  Will keep on trucking!

Mindy, I'm having a big problem with the Occasions settings cry. I just want my card to be uploaded and there seems I just can't put my card in the old way. There's a never ending extending list I can't coppe with or begain to understand and it has to be simple, not long winded. I jsut want my card put in Thank You catagory, how hard is that? I have to put it under some sub class, and another sub class and it never ends. If this keeps up, I'll be lost when up loading cards. Im drowning here! I am wondering why a card would get rejected for not adding it to a 2nd category when the 1st one was acceptable. Yet sometimes they just add to a 2nd category by the approving processor and say so in the card reviewer's comments for extra exposure which is really a terrific thing but then some of them reject the cards asking me to add it to a 2nd category then I have to wait all over again when my 1st approved choice was fine..  I am trying very hard every day to get it all right but it can be confusing since some get rejected for adding a 2nd category and others get rejected for not adding a 2nd category..  I personally feel if it fits a 2nd category that I was unaware it would fit well with then feel free to just add it since they are the experts but to sometimes reject it for not adding it to a 2nd unknown to me category is kinda hard to understand and know the right thing to do all the time..     I love the idea of having a card store and I am enjoying this site very much and I so respect all the hard work everyone does here but also find it a bit confusing to know whats right to do on my end all the time..  Darn newbies..  Hahahahaha..

It's important to remember that the review process and the review team are here for us so that our cards don't have mistakes on them, are in the place that the customer is looking for when they come to GCU and have the most exposure too.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with my contact with the review team and always feel that it is in my best interest to heed and try to understand their notes.  If I have a question, I send a reply with the original email attached and have always gotten a prompt courteous response from the review team.  They are quick to admit if they have overlooked something and will explain more fully the reasoning behind their notes.  I have also received some very good advice from them concerning verse composition or image exposure.  I really appreciate their diligence and am so thankful when they catch a silly mistake I have made.

It can be mind boggling at times because there are so many categories.  I learn something new everyday.  It helps to have a positive approach and keep the big picture in mind.  We are fortunate to have such a good review process on GCU.  I have my work on some other sites where there is much abuse and spamming by the artists who take advantage of the system where there is no review.

I have often seen suggestions by artists in the forum that the reviewers should just make the correction and not send the cards back to the artist to make corrections.  Can you imagine the amount of time that would take and it would soon spiral into an overwhelming job for the reviewers as artists began to rely on them instead of taking the responsibility themselves.

It's a joint effort here on GCU to be an excellent card site and a lucrative business.  That's what makes it so great!

Although 2 categories are by no means required it certainly benefits you to have 2 as long as they are fitting.  Not all artists feel the same way as you do.   Some like to know and have a hand at exactly where their cards are and do not like us making changes for them.  Also part of the returning for edits process is educational so artists will be aware of the correct categories and location of categories.  We find that many artists do not read the notes on Approved w/ Notes emails so the learning opportunity is often missed unless the card is Returned for Edits.

Lastly some reviewers handle this differently based on their work style and also workload.  As you know picking categories from the looong list can be time consuming.  It is the same for them and adds time to the review process for everyone.

We are testing a feature for the reviewers that would speed up category entry/changing.  Perhaps this will help.  When perfected we plan to roll it out to artists.

Hi Patricia, Sorry you are finding this so frustrating.  Looking at your card it's pretty clear there are several issues.

Overall cards need to speak to and be fitting for the category you choose.  So your card with an image of a dragon that says simply "Thank You" is a general Thank You card.

There is nothing in the image or verse that makes it anything else - not Thank You for Kindness, not You are Welcome and certainly not for BOTH of these categories at the same time. Your options are to set the proper categories per the reviewers suggestion or modify your card to fit the category that you have chosen (for example: change verse to You are so kind, thank you!).  The reviewer has also suggested a second fitting category for you to give your card extra exposure.

So from their notes:
Please remove Occasions - You're Welcome / You are Welcome - General as this card does not address the category choice. Please remove Thoughtfulness / Kindness from Occasions - Thank You and ADD General. You may also add this card to Collections - Mystical & Myths - Dragons. Thanks

You should choose these categories:
Collections >> Mystical & Myths >> Dragons
Occasions >> Thank You >> General

ALSO please consider these very important points...
1) Card Title
Card titles are very important and provide valuable data to search engines.  Your title "Thank You" provides very little descriptive data.  This card would be better served with a card title like:  Red Dragon Thank You.  Just imagine how many Thank You cards are out there.  Add details to distinguish your card from the crowd.

2) Keywords
Keywords are very important for search too. Get specific and describe your card as if explaining it to someone who can not see it - colors, style, occasion, features for example: red, gold, illustration, cartoon, wings, dragon, mystical, creature, mythical, myths, forked tongue, thank you, grateful

3) Image Margin Allowance
the most important element that was not indicated in your review yet is the most alarming is the fact that you have not allowed for a 1/4 inch margin around all edges of your creative.  Your text on the top margin will certainly get cropped off and lead to an unhappy shopper.  Please be sure to use the card template when creating images to make sure all important details, especially text, are within this 1/4" margin allowance.

We have returned this card to you so you can make the above edits.  Please let us know if you have other questions.

Thank you Mindy.  I do appreciate your note here & understand the importance of accuracy from us & the reviewers perspective's too.  Does not help matters when I make stupid mistakes or over sights either.  I am growing to truly appreciate the card check people vs: worrying about the time it takes for approval. Just keep making them and remember to post early for holidays etc.  They have been very astute in catching my errors &/or category options I missed.   Not an easy job I would imagine.

I do hope you find a moment to look at my suggestion left in that forum.  Perhaps a decent one.. Perhaps not.  I am only speaking from how the flow feels-works for me as I use this wonderful site.   The better the tweaks to minimize error or oversight on our end the better for all I would think.   I also recently found some terrific info & learning links from Corrie K written on the internet that was such a help for maneuvering this site and why.   I did not know much of this a few months back when I became active here and think it would make a fine intro attachment or instant link suggestion to all us newbies signing up here.  The reading material was not only informative but interesting the way it was written and lead me to wanting to read more. Very clear and straight forward.  I think it was great to see a spot for learning and growth for this business logically with content-links that offered higher learning opportunities on a regular basis.  Great stuff..  Have yourself a grand weekend too!  Smiley  .

Mindy, that's so long winded and hard to understand. I still don't understand why I can't just drop my card off in the "Thank You" catagory! Why should I have to relist it in tons of words. First off, I don't know where it would fit, second, it's just a thank you card. And the other is a Halloween card. The sub listing gets to long to hunt down in. Can't you make it easier for me to point click on where to put it? I don't need to hunt down for 10 days of lists! Just drop it in the right catagory. Gods! This is getting hard to do.
