If it is solely an option for artists to use in making their cards it doesn't bother me, personally, like Penny, I doubt I would use it, since I can spend much time tweaking the image and text to make sure they all fit together until I am satisfied. But that's me Wink

My BIG objection is in allowing customers to add their own text as my name and logo is on the card. Therefore the card represents MY work in the recipients mind. I don't want a customer adding type across one of my designs or worse adding profanity (don't know if there would be rules) and it going out as my work.
The cards I have in my store are my designs that have been carefully thought out, they may lack much but they are all mine, the good ,the bad, and the ugly! I want to stay in control of what has my name on it.

I like the option of allowing customers to put text on the cover, because I feel that GCU is a customer-focused site.   Allowing customization is what makes POD card sites special. It's a big reason customers come here.  If you already have text on the cover of your card design, they won't be able to remove it.  There are already prohibitions against obscenity.  If someone wants to personalize my design I'm thrilled that this will make it more their own.

I have to agree with Pamela, who makes a great point.  My designs on GCU are not created with a name in mind.  Keep one thing in mind...the reason Zazzle's personalization is so popular and works so well both for customers and artists is that the artist creates a template where the text goes. Therefore designs are MADE to have personalization and the artist has designed that concept in so all the customer has to do is enter their name in field.

In my opinion, this would be the only acceptable solution for me.  IF I can choose where the name is placed...IF I can choose which cards are personalized and which are not, then I'm fine with the feature.  I agree with Pam, I do not want a customer to randomly put a name or message anywhere they want on my art.  This is my livelihood and I need to maintain control of how and what is done with my art.  If I can turn the feature off and let others of you who don't care what someone writes on your art, then I am totally cool with that  Grin

Zazzle does have an option of allowing personalization, I think. Some types of cards on GCU would be better with the option of personalization on the cover, such as name-specific cards, such as Happy Birthday, Mary Louise, or something like that.  Those could be the cards that have the personalization option. I think I would sell more cards with this option than without.

Yes, Zazzle does have the option of allowing personalization, however the artist can control this.  If the artist checks the box on that product to not allow personalization, then no one can add to the design.  This is in addition to and separate from locking or not locking aspects of your creation in the design screens.

I am a ProSeller at Zazzle so I just thought I'd let you know what I've learned along the way.
