You are so right Penny  Grin  We do look at GCU differently and I'm sure if customers had complained or commented on that category, something would have been done.  I personally feel it would be nice to have a more random approach to all the categories, but that's just me  Grin

Oh, I TOTALLY agree with Penny too, (as we've discussed this issue a few times, aye?) Wink

I got caught up in worrying about too many of the same cards being shown at one time on the NEW CARDS page. Thought it may be a 'turn off', but have to believe that we wouldn't be in business if it was a deterent to our sales.

We are striving to create 'one-of-a-kind' specific category cards, and that is probably what most people are searching for. I would think that the percentage of people who don't want to take the time to view all of the new cards, and leave our site because of it, is probably pretty low in comparison to those who do like to view and search.

It doesn't happen all the time, there is a great variety most times anyway...

Keep smiling!

I got my friend to browse the site, and watched what she did. When she wanted to look at the new cards, she clicked on the picture of a card to the left of the writing, under New cards and Best sellers on the right of the page. This links to the category the card is in, not to the new cards at all. I think most people would click on the picture rather than the writing. That is what we are conditioned to do on the vast majority of sites. The link leads only to confusion, and I think very few customers make it to the new cards section anyway.
That would explain why Mindy says very few customers browse 'whats new', the link does not direct them to the right place.
My friend took a brief look at the cards, in this case birthday cards, then started clicking on categories on the left. She did not realize that she had not seen new cards at all.

I don't know how well that would work, Ernestine. Customers seem to be doing specific searches for "31 birthday" etc - as shown by my sales notices - and they wouldn't find what they were looking for. . . ---Corrie http://www.corrieweb.nl

I see your point, I was thinking just of the "new cards" section only. . . but since no one looks at that anyway, guess it doesn't matter.  If the "customization" had been in effect from the beginning it might be a different story.

Shouldn't a feature be something to help customers navigate and BUY cards rather than just "NOT a detriment"?

Hey, I just looked at new cards, and for the first time ever I did not get the "barrage."  Is this a coincidence, or did something change?

You must think of the return customer.  That is who will be looking at the new cards.  If I have already seen what GCU has to offer on my last recent visit, I check the new cards to see what is NEW.  We cannot forget the returning customer.  It is easier to keep a customer than to constantly find new customers.
