New - Special Promotions Storefront Module
Jun 22^nd, 2009, 4:50pm

We have just added a new optional storefront module for Special Promotions. It will automatically reflect any specials promotions that we are running and will appear in your storefront sidebar. If no promotion is running the module will not appear.

To display this module you just check it ON. To do this go to your Store Layout & Content page.
As with all modules you can drag and drop to a desired position.

I'll like keep hardcoding mine, as I like where/how it displays in my store. More work for me, but what-the-hay Suggestion: can the expiration date be listed as well?

Cool. One thing I know other sites do is tease you to "Apply to order now" and it puts the discount code in your cart even before you have products in your cart. Expanding the little cart box on top to indicate "discounts applied" (perhaps in a bold color) would help too in this instance as a reminder.

Tests have shown that once people have a "Discount coupon" they actually tend to complete an order (ie: ++ conversion rate), or buy more products than they had planned; much like those "$10 off an order of $50" plastic things we get in the mail from stores like Officemax. I'm a sucker for those. THEY WORK!

Thinking further, if GCU grows to have a series of promos, perhaps the store promo box would read "click here for available discounts" and then a pop-up, like the one used for Add to Cart, would list the various ones available including some that may always be available, like "$10 off an order of $50." This is where the shopper can choose the one discount that is the most appealing to them for this order. One option also might be to give them card credits vs. a discount so they return more often. A card credit balance might trigger a reminder email to them to come on back and shop some more! Hmmm ...
