New with a question regarding links
Jun 16th, 2009, 10:27am

Hi all - I just found this site yesterday and I think it's very cool! I have one card up and a few more waiting. At this point I'm just looking at photography cards but I may branch out eventually.

I have a handmade card shop on etsy and artfire. Am I allowed to link to them or my blog here and where would I do that? In a bulletin?

Thanks so much! Jeanine

Hi Jeanine and Welcome to GCU!

Yes...in a bulletin or in your About Me section would work just fine.

I know we aren't supposed to link to outside shops in our cards or their
descriptions when we list them.

You may be able to link in your store banner section as well.

Have fun and look forward to seeing some of your work!   Smiley

Thanks for your quick reply! That's good to know about the card descriptions and I will add the links to a store bulletin I think.

HI Jeanine, Welcome!

I've linked to my main portal in my "about me" section.  Whereever it works best on your storefront, I would imagine.  I liked the "about me" section since it is always there (as opposed to the welcome paragraph).  Also, I don't want to steer them AWAY from shopping at my GCU store, so it's in the sidebar (again, instead of the welcome paragraph).

Hope this helps!

Hi Jeanine and welcome!

I stopped by your site and when you link to your other sites in the "about me" section, which is where I do it as well, you need to do a little HTML to get those links to work.  Enter them this way:

<a href="http://www.cafepress.com/salonofart">Salon of Art at Cafepress</a>

so your blog would be

<a href="http://www.mygrandpaspen.blogspot.com">My Grandpas Pen Blog</a>

Thanks so much for that! I was able to add the link and modify for all 3!

I know nothing about html - I think I'm going to have to learn one of these days!!

Glad it worked!!  I don't know anything about HTML either, but I'll get frustrated every once and awhile and just go look for the code to do something simple, so now I have a short list of 'goodies' I can use.  Grin

I'm just getting my store started and am still new to the site. I've got a question. I'm trying to generate traffic to my store and signed up for a free service that submits my store url to various search engines. This service is free, but I need to place a link to the submission company on my store page in exchange for their service. I added the link in my bulletin section, but just wanted to make sure this is ok. I know artists can put links in that section to their work on other sites, but this is a little different.

I'm trying to find ways to generate more traffic and would welcome feedback from other artists. I know I'm  just getting started- trying to add more work daily, but besides word of mouth, does anyone have any other ideas how to "spread the word"?
