How about "All Occasion Card ?"
Jan 12th, 2009, 10:59am

I have an idea (I do that occasionally):  How about doing away with the term "blank card" and renaming it "all occasion card ?"  In talking with people I find that most are not sure what I mean by "blank."  They think maybe I'm talking about a card with absolutely nothing on it.
Also when I Google "blank card" I come up with mostly the do-it-yourself card sites. Give it some thought ?

I think that is an excellent idea, Ed! It really does make more sense.

To futher combine 'Note Card' and 'Blank Card' Categories to be one 'All Occasion/Blank inside' Greeting Card Category gets my vote. I think sub categories under All Occasion would also be needed to help sort the volume of Blank cards.

I agree.  I have yet to sell any blank cards.  All occasion cards sounds so much nicer

I think this is a good idea and I think All Occasion/Blank cards would be good since it incorporates both terms (sub catagories also). In regard to notecards, I always think of these as smaller than regular cards but there seems to be no distinction here on GCU between notecard and blank. Has it ever been considered to offer notecards that are smaller and therefore more affordable/competitive in this type of card. I personally prefer smaller cards for this purpose, as often you only have a brief message to convey which can look lost on a larger card.

Yup - I like the idea of combining the blankcards into the note card category. I never figured out the difference anyhow. I've sold a handful of blankcards - but the number is way below what I sell in holiday or other occassion cards. The other problem with the Blank and Note card categories is that it's just too big & general. The Blank/Note card category should be subdivided by subject like animals, seasons, etc. Actually that's probably how I sold the few blank cards. I'd have the card in Blank or note as category 1 and in a more specific subject like collection/rodents for category 2.

Well, it appears we have lots of yea's and no nay's,  but we haven't heard from Mindy or Shaun.  Maybe there's a problem we haven't thought of (like does Hallmark hold the copyright on the term "all occasion ?"

Goodness, no reply here as this is the first I've seen this post, sorry.   Tongue  I must have been snoozing...zzzzzzzzz.

We've had a few debated threads on the difference between a blank card and a note card.  Since all cards at this time are 5x7, size is irrelevant.

See here:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?action=search2

Simply combining the two is not an option however I think the current organization is worth review and certainly a bit of weeding.

Personally I'm not fond of ALL Occasions as it means ALL, if we do make a category name change ANY Occasion is more accurate.

One issue is that the Blank Cards category has many occasion specific cards that just happen to be blank inside which was the original intent of the category, thus these cards would not be considered Any Occasion cards.  Since it is doubtful that a shopper would click through nearly 15,000 blank cards to find a specific occasion card that happens to be blank inside we see the benefit of rethinking this collection.

To be consistent Note Cards would actually fall under Any Occasion / Blank Cards however we hesitate doing that at this point since we'll lose any search traffic relevancy data.

Let me sleep on it and see if I can come up with a logical plan of attack!   Wink  zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ok, here's what we're thinking in light of preserving valuable search traffic to Note Cards and improving the overall collection & shoppability of Blank Cards.

1. Remove Collections >> Blank Cards
2. Rename Collections >> Note Cards to Collections >> Any Occasion / Blank Note Cards
3. Add additional subcats
4. Weeding to remove occasion specific cards & cards with inside text from this new combined category

We think this will result in a more effective collection and eliminate some confusion among both artists and shoppers.

Let me know if you think we've overlooked something.   Smiley

Hi Mindy,

Will we be able to add cards that are already in our store to the new subcategories or will we have to resubmit them?  Huh

this sounds good and i too would like the option to change categories after approval.  however i still wish we did not call these note cards.

note cards in my experience have always been the smaller size. whether you buy at wal-mart or hallmark, make your own from blanks you buy at office depot or order from POD's,- note cards are always the smaller card.

we know all the cards are 5x7, there is no guarantee others do though.  can some one come up with a catchy name for write your own message?  or no verse inside?  something that does not bring to mind the 4.5 x 5 cards that are normally note cards but clarifies the blank card issue?

We will be doing some clean up work over the next week or two to weed & move.  You should not need to request moves but after the work is done if there is a move you do not agree with you can always request a change.  NO resubmissions will be required, goodness no.   Tongue  <big sigh of relief from the crowd>

Although not accurate in size we'd prefer to catch the attention of shoppers searching for "note cards" and have a shot at their business than not at all.  To date we have not had any customer satisfaction issues to mention re: note cards being 5x7.
