Anyone else get an email from SendOutCards?
Dec 29th, 2008, 6:51pm

I get home today to find an email that was sent to me from my gallery here complimenting me on my designs and saying they thought I would do very well with this company. Of course I did a search and found the site, lol, I can become a distributor for them and can choose from it costing me $99, $299 or only $699 to sell my card designs. Just another network marketing scam. I replied to the email very politely saying Thank you for your interest and compliment. That yes I would be interested in designing cards for them but not in buying or investing any money. And why should I when I can desing them, market them, and have them on multiple sites here and I make money instead of it costing me money?

Hi Debbie,
Yes, I got the same e-mail today.  I suspect others did also.  I looked into it and thought it did not sound like a good idea, so I just ignored it.

I got the email too and took a quick look. From what I can gather, they want me to pay them to sell my cards! I don't think so. Grin Wink Huh

Sad OMG I got the very same email!! lol! I replied asking...why would you pick me out of the thousands of talented artists on GCU...followed by...I am sure you have been in touch with many other GCU artists!
I said that I would be interested as long there was no money involved!! Guess that's out! HA HA. I was just about to check out the site, when I saw I had an email from GCU on the subject! Now I won't have to bother!

Thanks Debbie & Kathy

Well I got a reply from her, and no I don't have to buy a kit but I do have to sign up to be a "sender", in other words I have to pay at least $25 per month to send cards to people. Then you try to get other people to send cards. It is all a multi level marketing scam.

Here's what I got from Amanda

I will be very upfront with you, I contacted about 20 artists from GCU. You
are right, there are thousands of artists on that website, but the ones I
have selected have a different take on artwork. Some are cartoon-ish, others
are photography, some are sketches and others use watercolors. Your
photography is some of the best I have seen. I love nature and you are
talented enough to capture the true beauty of nature in the photography you
take.

There are fees with setting up an artist account, but I am willing to work
with you some because of your talent. Normally there is $25.00 fee to set up
your own online greeting card account. I will waive this but there is a
$10.00 per artwork fee to have your artwork created into a card and listed
on the website. You can start small and work up to where you want to be once
your husband is well again. I have attached an artist brochure for your
review.

Please take the opportunity of seeing the system and using the system for
yourself. I want to pay for your first two greeting cards you send. Go to
www.sendoutcards.com and type in gift55408 for the username and password.
This will give you access to the entire system for 14 days unless you
upgrade. Please be sure to have your speakers turned up because you will be
guided through the system. Before you upgrade, contact me. I want to waive
the $25 fee for you to get you started as soon as possible. When I waive
that fee, I do not get any upfront commission. I am willing to sacrifice
this for you! I do not receive any of the $10.00 per artwork.

SendOutCards, LLC is based out of Salt Lake City, UT and is growing at an
enormous rate! We are getting ready to open a second printing facility in
Cincinnati, OH and we subcontract printing in Australia, Canada and the UK!
SendOutCards went from and annual revenue of $200,000 in 2004 to a projected
annual revenue $45 Million in 2008. We are only at the beginning!

If you have any questions, please contact me. For the record, I am not an
artist, but I have an eye for great artwork!

Thanks for your time!

Yes I received one also. You have to pay 10.00 for each and every card you post.  It looked like a scam to me.

Apparently many of our artists were contacted by Amanda with this email:

"You have a very distinctive card catalog. I am an Independent Distributor for SendOutCards and I think you would do very well with your own card catalog with my company because your cards are very different from those in our card database. I would love to speak with you more about this opportunity. I have an artist brochure for you to review, so if you are interested, please reply. Thanks for your time!"

The best we can tell SendOutCards is a pyramid type business with little upside for the artists.  The fact that you have to pay to participate is suspect.  If they really want your art they should be willing to pay you either up front or via royalties/commissions.

We are fine with solicitations for your work via your storefronts as they may bring wonderful opportunities to you.  However use caution, do your due diligence and please let us know if you ever feel you are being harassed so we may intervene.

Yes, I got the same email.  Soon as I googled them, it looked like a scam... so I just left it there.

A little interesting tidbit...just noticed the woman who sent these notes to us has joined GCU as an artist.

Yeah, I got an email from them about a year ago. . . a laughable invite I promptly deleted.  I can't believe they are STILL trying to get GCU artists to come aboard!
