Front of Card Artist Credit
Jun 27th, 2008, 7:59am

Since this wonderful news about the artist credits now on the back of the card, I was wondering if those of you who currently show your artist credit on the front of the card will continue to do so.   I can't decide about continuing the credit on the front or not and would appreciate some feedback from others.

Yes ...er...no....er....maybe Grin
I can't make my mind up either. On the one hand it can detract from the card so I have been leaving it off some of them, but, there is nothing like your name being right in plain view so to speak and how many people will look on the back of the card? Smiley

I've never liked the idea of having a name on the front of the card, for me it ruins the front.  Up untill now have choosen to leave the name of all together.  Defenatly be going with credits on back now though.

This is a question I was wondering also.  Those of you who have always added the GCU credit on the front as opposed to adding it as part of the design in the software - are you going through all of your cards and removing it?  I think it is distracting on the front the have the GCU version printed on it and want to remove it from the front.  It will take a long time, though...but I think it is worth it.  I am just going about it slowly and methodically.   Smiley

Sandra, I think the front credits can be turned off and on with a global change from the administrative settings.   Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the information, Delores!  However, when I went to the Admin area with the global settings, there was nothing available for changes on all of the cards - just the new ones! Sad  Am I missing something?   Wow - I hope I am, cause it is very time consuming!! Roll Eyes

Oh, wow.  It looks like you're right Sandra.   It seems like the changes for front of card credits only apply to the new cards.

Smiley Good Morning All,
I think that the "Credit" on the front of the card is up to each individual artist. I personally as an artist and as a card sender would rather keep that feature. I like that I can change the color to almost fade into the image if I want it to or I~ can make it stand out ~I love opptions period. I think part of my wanting to keep the feature is because in the past I have had my work "borrowed" lets say, without my permission so I want to keep the option for that purpose as well. AND as you must know in the ART world a signature is something that is very improtant and that is what that credit on the image is a signature is a signed piece so to speak.
CHOICES...each individual must make their own choice so lets keep our options open! Wink

I also like the front of the card credits, I dont think it takes away from the art...I do however shorten the front credit to my initials...and a copyright symbol...(O169 + alt at the same time)  ©jlp with the smallest font. It would be nice to have a color grid...to blend in more...like the one we now have for the inside of the card. ( hint-hint ) There I go again, newbie making suggestions.. Roll Eyes

I prefer to have the credit on the back of card, I think having it on the front can detract from the cover design.

Sandra,  I just ran a trial with using the global change to remove the credits on the front of the cards.    In the little thumbnail, I can still see the credit, but when I call up the large image of the card, the credit is no longer there.   So, maybe the global change does work on all the old cards.

Delores, I tried that too, and it seems that some of them the global switch worked on the preexisting cards, and other ones still had the credit showing.  It is a bit easier with some of the credits gone but not all of them, so I still have to check each one individually.

Thanks for checking.

I couldn't make up my mind on this either.  First I turned it off then on then off...
I hope I have not made the cards in my store go crazy over all this indecision.

When I first started, I put credits on all my cards.  Then I found that I thought the credits took away from the design on some of the cards, so I started putting it only on cards that I thought it did not take away from the design on.  Lately, I have only been putting credits in the artwork itself which I think makes it seem more like a piece of art so it may be perceived as more valueable should someone choose to frame the artwork.

I look at the back of card credits as just a bonus--I now get credit for every card.  This is great!

I actually think the global option is only for new cards and does not change old ones.  I hope it continues to work this way, as I would not want my old cards that I have credits on to lose the credits, but I only put the credits in the artwork now so it makes more sense for me to have it turned off.

My two cents...
Kathy

I must say that I agree that it is just a spoiling of the front design to put my a credit on the front.
Absolutely no need at all, now that I am credited on the back

Smiley Yes! Like ART itself it is all subjective so isn't it great to HAVE THE OPPTIONS!
Each one needs to make their own decision as to the best for them...  Wink
