Card sales
Jan 27th, 2008, 8:22am

I would like to get a feel for how I am doing in sales as compared to other artists, so I'll be brave and start.

I opened my store Dec. 3, 2007
I have sold 99 cards (not including the 4 I bought myself)
I have 578 cards in my store at present

Anyone else care to share?

Linda

This says to everyone, Production is KEY..The more cards you produce , the Better your chances...I could probably do well if I had more cards...Interesting.. Thanks Linda...capt.

Thanks for the reply, Artists.  I am firmly convinced that having as many quality cards makes a huge difference.  One card might get someone into you store because they like the style, etc., and then they can start buying.  This is a HUGE REASON why I want to see an efficient way of catgorising stores.  If someone were to come into my store now they would see a mess, and moving one card at a time is tedious and a waste of my time.......

Thanks  Cap
I have asked privetely for folks to share, but seems that sales info is sensitive.  The ONLY reason I am asking is to get a feel for how this site is doing.
I know the site does well as far as how many hours I spend on it...I am logging in more hours creating than my dog likes as evidenced by her tearing up some sketches...must be time for a cleansing walk!!!!!!!!

Hi Linda, Thanks for asking the question. And thanks to those who have answered so far.

I have had no sales yet. I joined on January 6, 2008 and have 31 cards so far, many of which are not profiled and therefore not part of the "reminder" websites.

Previously I had been printing cards for $1 each on Shutterfly, and selling them to friends and at a cafe. I have always gotten a great response.

Selling on line is very different. Getting traffic to one's website is key. Once I have my store inventory built up, and we are able to organize our stores in a more usable fashion, and we are able to put a caption and credit on the back, I plan to actively market my site. Hopefully that will bring in sales.

good luck to all,
Dustin

Where do you plan on marketing?  Since this is my first store I have no idea what to to or where to market.  Any tips are welcome!

Thanks for posting this Linda, this has been quite interesting for me as I realise that I hadn't really calculated all of it. I sold my first card in March 29th 2007, soon after I started the store. I have sold 323 cards so far, and have 257 cards in my inventory, apparently!

Cheers,

Mariana

mariana..I just checked out your store and I like what I see.  I really like your Birthday card with the line drawn flowers, very nice.  I can se why you have triple the sales for the cards in your store.  I will peek at your key words and see if that helps me.  I think I am using them all wrong!

Hi Linda, thank you!

To be honest though, I don't think my designs are any better or worse than anyone else's, especially when I see so much talent around! And I think my sales are pretty good but not extraordinary, AND you're doing very well for having opened your store so recently -- you have some really cool designs up there.

But I do work hard on marketing  (as subtly as possible though, as I hate "in your face" marketing) via my blogs, online art communities, squidoo and facebook. I do think it helps tons and then, as you say, once someone has entered your store and likes what they see, they are likely to return when they need a card for a certain occasion ... at least, that's what I think/hope happens Cheesy

Cheers, Mariana

Howdy,

Well just to add my input:

I have 39 cards in my shop and have sold 44.
I joined back in September I believe... I can't remember where I heard about this site. Might have been on Artwanted.com but I'm not sure. I've pretty much spread myself as much as I can in all the free sites online hoping to get bites and sales off the places I do sell my artworks.

Right now I'm just doing it as a side thing. I should really try and market more than I do. I just haven't gotten that enthusiastic about selling and I've been doing it a while.

Hi Linda,
I joined on Jan 2nd, have 105 cards in my gallary, have had 1051 store visits and 974 clicks with only 13 sales.  But those are 13 sales that I would not have made without GCU and every little bit helps.  I don't mind taking baby steps so long as I get to take the journey.
Thanks for asking this question.  I too had been wondering about others.  And we can now go take a peek at their sites and see what is working and what isn't.  Then too it is nice to hear what some do in the way of advertising to help our cause.  If we all work at it, it can only help us all!
Thanks again--everyone.
