Photo Insert Cards
Dec 23rd, 2007, 9:56am

Hi,

Can we have the option of people using our cards to create their photo insert cards?  I have 2 cards up that are intended for that use...but if people purchase them they will have to manually put their pictures in the correct places after they receive the cards....a hassle... here are a few examples:

Since scrapbooking is so popular I think this would be a really beneficial addition.

Thanks for your input.

Do you mean that the Blank parts would be laser cut out before the customer received them?

Wow....that is a really cool idea Smiley but no I was thinking about it all being done online.  Upload the card image as a png (with transparent backgrounds inside the frames and then the customer uploads their images....and like magic POOF there it is all done.....it sounds like it might be a bit of a hassle for the admin people but a lot of people would like the idea I think.  But your idea sounds easier Smiley and also that way they could put different images inside if they bought multiples.  What do you think?  Either way would be great to me.

Well *I* think your way is much easier and better if it's possible.  Smiley

And I think this would REALLY take off - I have sold alot of photo insert cards in png format, so there is definitely a market!

BTW love your website!

Eugenia & Olivia-

You know, even with the way these cards are right now, one can just paste in their own photos like one does with purchased scrapbook papers!  Great idea.  I think these should have a category: scrapbook cards, under collections or maybe under  collection: crafts: scrapbook(ing)... Mindy?

The idea of die cutting is great, but having worked in the scrapbooking industry since it's early days (12/13 years ago) I know how expensive die cutting is!  and just not financially possible on a POD site.  But the idea of uploading and placing in a pre-designed is card something I've been tossing around too!  Maybe offering the card designs from a specific gallery, customers pick a design, send their jpgs to an artists email or FTP site, card is completed then put in a private gallery for the customer.  Most of what's needed to do this already exists on GCU, and with future options for organizing stores could make this a very feasible option for card buyers and I believe profitable option for artists and GCU.

But in the meantime, I think a "scrapbook" category is in order, (when I did a GCU search only three cards came up).

Aha, I see now with Olivia's two cards, very clever.

Die cutting is certainly out of the question.  However you've got some great ideas on the custom photo orders.  Certainly these could be used as a sample/template and shoppers could request a custom card from the artist providing digital photos that could be posted in your private store.  Give us some time to brainstorm on this.

For now here's your new category Collections >> Scrapbook Photo Cards

Olivia, we've put your 2 cards in here already.

I'm wondering if it might be more clear for the shoppers if the Artist includes in small text on the cards "your photo goes here" in the photo area.

The cards are so pretty on their own it wasn't obvious to me that the intent is to include photos.

Also, once we get our "About this Card" notes feature working the Artist will be able to say something like "Contact me to custom create this card from your digital photos".

Just a few thoughts.
