CEO Update & Thanks :-)
Apr 23rd, 2007, 5:12pm

Greetings!   Our vision for GCUniverse is to revolutionize the Greeting Cards industry by empowering artists and building the best greeting card content anywhere in the world.

Thanks to all of you, 213 artists and counting, we are well on our way!   We have over 3,500 cards, great, unique and direct from the artist cards - an incredible achievement considering just 2.5 months ago we started with zero cards.

A couple of items to note as we pace ourselves and remember to be patient with progress...

o GCUniverse page ranking with Google is currently zero.  It typically takes 6 months for search engines to consider a site legitimate.   We experienced the same wait with DateBoxx.com and Birthday-Reminders.com.   Google's robot is scanning GCU pages every night, so continue focusing on your card title, keywords, and inner verse text.  We are confident that our ranking will be fairly high by summertime.

o We currently carry 2,500 stock greeting cards on our other BigDates-Solution sites.  Once we have all our categories filled up, we'll take these stock cards down and only feature cards by GCUniverse artists.  We still have many categories without greeting cards like Kwanzaa, April Fool's, and Rosh Hashanah to name a few.

o We've just finished the project of importing the GCU content into the new Google's new product database, called Google Base.    This import will take place every Monday.   Try searching for your cards at http://base.google.com.     You can also see a full listing of GCU cards at: http://base.google.com/base/search?authorid=1579573

Here is how you can continue helping make GCUniverse the ultimate greeting card site:

1. Continue to create and add specific content titles/keywords/inner verses - create cards with a purpose, for specific occasions, relationships, ages and genders.  Fill up the categories that have 0 cards.

2. Display your Card Widget on as many sites as possible.  The more links pointing to your storefront the higher the search rankings are.    You will see customization options for your Card Widget by end of the month.

3. Help us spread the word to other artists.  It may seem counter productive to invite more competition, but the only way we will enjoy huge success is for GCUniverse to become known through out the internet as the ultimate destination site for greeting cards.

We have so many plans for the future.  It's very exciting and we're grateful to have you on this journey with us.

Thank you for being a part of the GCUniverse community.  Thank you for being involved and vocal in helping not only our team but your peer artists as well.    Thank you for helping us reshape the Greeting Card landscape. Smiley

This is great-both to hear the good news and to get it direct from the horses mouth so to speak.  I've only been here going on 3 weeks, and have been very impressed so far.  I am also really happy to hear of the google base (aka froogle) upload!  I was trying to figure out an easy way to do this myself-and it can't get any easier than you guys doing it for us!  I noticed a big increase in hits both from froogle & regular google searches in another shop after "feeding" google, so I expect this will be a great help here too.  A big hip hip hooray for all the GCU staff!

Dear Nasser...I've just opened my store front. I have all "blank inside" note cards but I would like to custom design OFF-BEAT humorous greetings. I was reading one of your forum posting and it mentioned a card "congratulations on your vascectomy" (sp). Well that's pretty funny -can you give me a few other "milestone" ideas to start?

Hello,
Lots of places to look to for advice on what new cards to create...
1. Scan the list of Card Categories, which changes nearly daily, start by creating cards for categories that have few or no cards
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/dir_map.asp

2. Look to upcoming holidays, Valentine's is just around the corner and there are certainly some specific subcategories that could use cards

3. Look at the Traffic Analytic and Top Keyword reports under Reports & Analysis - that will show you what people are searching for and what kind of results they are getting

4. Watch the "Wanted: New Cards" forum topic for cards requested by shoppers.  These are usually off the beaten path if you're up to the challenge  Smiley

Just added a new Divorce/Break up categories that are prime for off-beat humor.  Occasions >> Congratulations >> Divorce/Break up
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/cb.asp?cid=1139

Announcement >> Divorce/Break up
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/cb.asp?cid=1140

Sympathy >> Divorce/Break up
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/cb.asp?cid=1141

Invitations >> The Divorce is Final
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/cb.asp?cid=1149

Hope that helps!

This information is wonderful!  I am SO glad I jumped in early with GCU--I remember reading over how this site was going to function---and I, too, thought 'wow! this could really work!'

So--high five to you, GCU, for the follow-through in advertising, marketing, new features and more.

Look forward to great things in the future---I see that my main portfolio page has encouraged most of my viewers here and have recently added this site to my facebook, aol hometown  and myspace.

Keep up the great work!
-Kerra

Hi,
I am wondering how often GCU submits to Google Base? When is the next time? Or do we submit our own cards?
thanks for the info,
Lora

Hi Lora,
We handle the submission of cards to Google Base.  We submit products every 2 weeks.  The next submission should be on Monday of next week.

We are actually working to automate the submission process, and once that happens we plan to submit new product to Google once or twice a week (maybe even more frequently if possible).
