Temu ALERT
Feb 10th, 2025, 8:17am

Hi everyone,
This weekend I was notified by a fellow artist (thank you, Moonie!) that a LOT of my cards were being sold on Temu under user: Liebevolle Karten.

While investigating, I recognized many other cards by other GCU artists - and this Temu user many not be the only one. I figured out how to create a violation ticket and wanted to get this info out there so you too can protect your cards.

Liebevolle Karten: https://www.temu.com/at-en/liebevolle-karten-m-634418218150743.html
I have been creating Infringement report tickets for my cards but suggest you do the same.

I believe I've seen Betty Matsumoto-Schuch, Sharon Dominick, M.M. Anderson and many more.

BEFORE you attempt to file an Infringement Report via this Temu website, make sure you create an account 1st otherwise the process will spontaneously dump your info and make you start over. When I sent two reports with a ton of URLs of my own, I also noted that this user on Temu is selling the work of other artists I recognized and that this user needed to be shut down. But, this will happen quicker if we all take the time to report our own violations.

Hey Doreen,

I just clicked on the link you provided in the original post about this, and it's still opening to the user's site. Shouldn't that link be dead if they shut down this user?

You are CORRECT!

It first comes up with "this .... is taking a break", then it reloads the store. So stay diligent folks. Go find your cards and send off IP reports!

In addition to those I mentioned this morning, I saw some Sandra Rose cards, Betsy Bush some of yours are there too. There are a bunch of us there. I took the time to grab the URL of nearly ALL my cards and made 4 reports filled with URLs and demands to close the shop.

Thank you, Gwen for noticing and reporting here. It may be she denied all accusations and they reinstated her. If more of us report our cards, maybe they will respond and respond quicker.

I never saw the "taking a break" message, but I've been scrolling through the site and I'd guess a majority of cards, if not every card, are stolen from somewhere. I haven't found any of my designs yet, but since I've been on GCU for less than a year, my store most likely isn't as noticeable as others who've been around for a while.

That being said, I'm going to keep a watch on this site. Doreen, maybe it would help me (and others) to know how to submit a violation ticket? I did see a "report this item" when I clicked on an individual card, so I guess that's an option, but if you have a better way to do it in bulk, that would be helpful.

Also, I noticed when clicking on single cards to get more info, there are NO photos of the back of the card...seems very suspicious, and makes me wonder.

Thanks!
Gwen

Hi Gwen and everyone -

UPDATE FIRST: I've already heard back and they removed all URLs of mine that I reported which were a couple hundred. Some were missed and that 50+ were reported this morning.

You need to scroll down and continue asking for more cards in this person's store until you reach the NO MORE message.

Every time you find one of your cards, open it in a new window, copy the URL and paste it into the report link below. As mentioned before CREATE AN ACCOUNT or the system will dump while you are in process. I also suggest logging the URLs into a document of your own with a blank space above and below each URL. That way when you've found all your cards you can create the report and paste in the findings so you don't loose your work if the system dumps before your done.

Report here:

https://www.temu.com/intellectual-property-complaint.html?_bg_fs=1&_x_sessn_ id=ftah7u302z&refer_page_name=intellectual-property-policy&refer_page_id=19457_1739299240741_q7jqo63xfq&refer_page_sn=19457

Before entering the URLs I wrote a message of - feel free to copy it:

This user: https://www.temu.com/at-en/liebevolle-karten-m-634418218150743.html
Is VIOLATING my intellectual property by selling my cards WITHOUT PERMISSION - as well as many other artist's cards I recognize from card sites I'm on. CLOSE THIS STORE IMMEDIATELY

Bottom line, they are responding and removing the URLs reported but NOT closing this person down - at least not until they get reports from other artists.

Good luck!

Wow, you had a lot stolen...such a shame people choose to steal the work of other artists!!

Thank you for the link and the information about how to proceed. I hope other artists will jump on board and make complaints to get this stopped.

Have a great day,
Gwen

Luckily, I didn't see any of my own cards on the site, but it's very disconcerting that our cards could be stolen. Is there not anything that GCU can put in place to prevent this?

Cheryl - in today's world, there is nothing anyone can do other than be vigilant when it occurs. You certainly can turn on the watermark option that GCU provides, but you should also expect a significant reduction in sales if you do that. I had the watermark on the first year or two I joined GCU and other POD sites. I realized that if I was having difficulty viewing the cards or having legibility issues with reading the text through and around the watermark, then customers did too. I removed it and my sales rocketed upwards.

This isn't a GCU issue, it's a selling our work online issue and it happens periodically. It's not the 1st time for me nor will it be the last. The internet is FULL of dishonest people attempting to make a buck. It's been years since I've experienced this and hopefully it will be years before it happens again.

I also see my cards there, and recognized other GCU artists as well. At the moment it's mainly Mother's Day cards, but I'm sure this Chinese seller changes their collection as the holidays come and go. So you need to keep looking for more of your ripped off cards to come by all through the year. I didn't see any signs this shop has been taken down or cautioned. They have been doing this for awhile now. I've seen Temu shops come and go at the drop of a hat so even if this one goes, another one will come back in it's place.
Sadly it's a sign of the times we are living in now. Anything you put online can be stolen.

We have contacted our U.S. Senators and Representatives about this issue with Temu. There is definitely not an appetite right now for Chinese based companies profiting off American artists. There are so many stolen images from CardIsle and Zazzle too if you have non-GCU cards listed there. Also, there are local stories on television about this issue of stolen work and Temu. This is going to have to be a public and team effort!

Still working on take down requests. The ones we completed so far have been taken down within 24 hours. Doreen: Your "Let's talk turkey" series with various dogs is now listed on Temu. We saw about 15 of them. Keep up the work fellow artists!

Thanks for the info. I probably should go look but in the past I've found it to be a tremendous waste of time to try to get Chinese companies to comply with our copyright laws. Sure, they'll take one down but then ten more pop up. If I have some time this weekend I may take a look. If Temu is anything like Amazon, then they probably have a 'Master Catalog' of the product images that their 3rd party sellers can use. Good luck getting your work taken out of that.
Edited to add: Not sure I want to create a Temu account. They don't have a good reputation for security.
