Metadata in Our Original Designs

Hi Everyone! I am wondering if it is recommended to get rid of metadata from our own original designs before we upload them to GCU or any other platform. If so, I wonder if using the Export function instead of the Save As function in my Photoshop Elements program would take out the metadata. Or should I include a watermark? Thanks in advance for any advice! : )

Hi Cheryl,

The metadata from our designs is not needed or utilized in any way at any POD, GCU included. Saying that, you should be able to simply Save As a JPEG or PNG depending on type of design and upload that image with no issues.

NO watermark! Any image you upload to GCU or any other POD site is EXACTLY what prints so definitely leave off the watermark. Also suggest you TURN OFF the watermark option at GCU as leaving it on seems to discourage customers. Myself and several other veterans tested this years ago and opted out of watermarks to increase sales.

Hi Doreen. Thank you so much! So if we simply Save As (which I assume still contains metadata) instead of Exporting or doing something special to get rid of the metadata, customers won't be able to see the metadata? I wondered if they could see the metadata maybe they could utilize it some way to "steal" our images. By the way, I'm still confused as to Save As vs Export. I've been using Save As with all my files to upload to my pod sites. Thanks again! : )

Hi Cheryl - I'm logged into my other store so don't be confused by the 'newbie' next to my logo, I'm still the same person. Grin

No, customers on any POD site are not able to see any metadata, that is purely for the creators record keeping purposes. Save As a non-layered jpg or png is the answer to all POD sites.
