Will GCU ever introduce a volume bonus?
Dec 8th, 2011, 2:24am

Just wondering if GCU ever intend on introducing a volume bonus for bulk sales? It's very seldom that any one artist gets a huge bulk sale and it would be nice to receive some sort of bonus when it does happen.
Especially when GCU is running a discount promotion like it has this week with 25% off. That really cuts into an artists profit when for a 500 bulk sale the artist only makes 10%. It's a little harsh me thinks.  Shocked

Anyway, it may be something that is considered or discussed in future?  Wink Maybe.......  Cheesy

That's a great suggestion Cheryl!

It really is heart wrenching when you actually do make a bulk sale when GCU has a promotion ... it just sometimes doesn't add up to be too profitable for the artist. I think a fair reward system should be considered ... atleast it would give artists the incentive to promote their stores even more ... and still giving GCU big sales ...so it's a win-win situation for everyone!

I guess we can only cross our fingers that someone will read your post and give it some consideration. Smiley

I do hope someone see's this post and does something about it. I too get frustrated when I sell a big amount of cards but the profit is so minimal. I'm sure they can think of something!  Tongue

Having worked in the printing industry for more than 25 years I understand the more items you print the less-it-is-per-piece, idea.
However, in terms of artist's royalty, that shouldn't make a difference. The image is the image. I agree that it is a backwards philosophy to in effect "penalize" the artist for their popularity.
In publishing, and in most industries, the more you sell, the more you make. Author and Illustrators (and athletes, actors and musicians) do get more money based on performance of their work.

Aha, sounds nice but there is no fat to trim from on these sales.  GCU takes a hit just like the artist does.  It most cases this is a sale we would not capture had it not been for the promotion.

Unfortunately POD printing does not follow the normal rule that the more you print the cheaper per piece.  They are all the same cost no matter how many you print on POD.  Shoppers still expect quantity discounts though, no matter how something is printed.

We don't gain economies in printing until it is 3,000 or more of the same identical unit.  A true bulk order.  We (our printing partner) shifts from POD to traditional press printing.  Then the more you print the cheaper per unit it gets.  That's when we can talk volume bonuses!
