That is so sad and I few others I know have done the same thing.  I just heard GCU will not be offering free shipping any longer????  And you are not able to use two discount codes at the same time like we were able to before (ie. our artist code and free shipping code)  That is how I have always bought my own cards to sell in local stores.  If that is the case I will be directing my efforts to my two other sites as well.

I have to say I agree with whomever said we are not getting enough pay for the hassle we are going through.

Where did you here this Jane?

We've never been allowed to use discount codes WITH our artist discount, but have always been allowed to use free shipping with our artist discount.  It's okay if that changes, but I'm curious how you were informed, because I missed the announcement.

Another artist told me of this and I have ALWAYS used free shipping code with my artist code so yes we were able to use more than one with our artist discount.

What I said Jane, was WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ALLOWED TO USE FREE SHIPPING codes with our artist discounts.  Sorry if I didn't make it clear Smiley  I'll wait to hear from GCU that things have changed, my bet is they have not.

GCU's policy in the nearly 3-years I've been here has always been:

Artists can use EITHER the special discount code OR their artist discount to achieve the lowest price on their cards, but CAN NOT combine them.

Artists CAN COMBINE FREE SHIPPING offers with their artist discount.

Unless this 'change' comes as an announcement from GCU, I would not make assumptions that this policy has changed.

I honestly thought the good many of us were doing our best to submit out best.  I've attempted to be very critical of my work.

And for Jane, I think Joan was questioning my motives for mentioning the discrepancy in the number of artists actually set up here.  I've had a number of conversations about current goings-on off forum and it seemed odd to someone I chatted with that the homepage states 4000 artists and in reality there are just over 2300.

It's just an observation of a discrepancy that for all good purposes should be rectified so that people coming to the site have accurate information - and as it stands right now, this doesn't appear to be accurate.  I don't mean to be picky... just commenting aloud...

I would agree too Donna and thank you for clarifying - sometimes the responses get farther behind and it's hard to follow.  I also feel that if we have to do our utmost best to be professional they GCU should also and update the numbers like you suggested.  Wouldn't that also be a professional thing to do?

Not all contributors have store fronts was always the understanding. If this is still the case, one number would not necessarily match the other.

My point about people's work continuing to be for sale here even if they are not adding new designs is self-evident, I would think. Their cards are still being offered; they have not left, even though others seem to be reacting as if they had.

This is correct, nothing has changed.  Artists can continue to apply free shipping with their artist discount code OR a discounted promotion code, whichever gives them the best price.

Also we have no intent nor have made any comments that free shipping offers will go away.  You've likely not seen them recently as we have been running significant holiday discounts.

The numbers on the homepage are promotional text - fixed graphics and not "live" numbers.  However they continue to be accurate (although not exact).

The live numbers can be found here below the matrix of artists' photos:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/art_welcome.asp

Specifically:
524,330 Cards  •  4,809 Artists  •  13,995 Categories

The list of artists on the page you've referenced (all artists) only lists those stores with a minimum number of cards (I believe 2) so some are not accounted for (2,499?) and means we have a boat load of artists with only 1 or 0 cards in their store.  This represents a mix of old stores that have not seen any growth and brand new stores in their earliest of days.

Make sense?

After three years of building our card shop with time and care, Cherie and I will be taking a break for awhile and moving on to a different web site. Our current store will remain open, but we will no longer be submitting new designs. Almost every single design I have submitted in the last two months has been declined or returned for the tiniest of nitpicky reasons, and I simply do not have time to deal with it anymore. I have three kids. I wish you all the very best, and I am very sad to have to move on for awhile. Cherie is going to experiement with her camera to come up with "better" shots, and maybe we will return someday when we have obtained the "perfection" the reviewers think we must possess to sell cards here. Reminds me of the Borg.

Sorry to hear this Angela.  I know you have many top sellers here and have led the way in many of the wedding party categories.  For my own edification I will be looking at your store's recent review activities to see where we may refine the process.

Best of luck in all of your endeavors.

thanks again for the clarification... I always am driven to look at accuracy (part of my science background!!) - when another artist and I were discussing the numbers, something didn't jive... now I understand why that is...

I'm so sorry, Angela, that you will be leaving GCU for awhile. I'm glad that you let us know. The comments here got a little side tracked from your initial post, but I want you to know that most of the artists here support your decision and respect your talent. I too took a break for awhile when the rejections were making me unable to create. I stepped back, did other art, and felt renewed afterwards. You will too. Don't get discouraged. Your great talent will resurface and your confidence will too. Even though we try to be strong with rejections; it's hard to constantly face negativity. After all, artists are sensitive people. That's what makes us artists. I wish you much success, a wonderful Christmas, and a very prosperous New Year. Know that you have tons of friends here who care about you!

** CORRECTION **
We have temporarily disallowed free shipping to be combined with any other promotion code for all transactions until after the first of the year due to the many deep discounts we have in circulation.
