These people who have said they are not submitting are not leaving. Their shops remain, with all that was already in them. So, Donna L., from where do you pull your diminished list of designers?

Oh, if it were spelling errors I would be gratefull ... no, this is because after submitting a photo of a dog three times "a portion of his nose is blurry". there is "unsightly seaweed" in a picture of a pelican (the picture has a very tiny strip of beach in it, and you can barely see any vegetation) and "Too much grass" in a picture of country mailboxes I cropped twice until most of the warmth and character left with the grass. If it were every now and then I would take it in stride, but not with almost every card. It's break time.

Joan,

Go to the homepage - at the top, it says and I quote "over 400,000 cards + 4,000 artists + 10,000 card categories."

Go to the link "See ALL Artists" - you will see a listing that says on page 1  "1 - 25 of 2,308 artists"

Just a discrepancy that was brought to MY attention by another artist that I thought I would mention.

I know people will come and go, but having 4K artists on the front page needs to be corrected to be accurate.

Angela, I'm so sorry you are going through this - I'm hearing so many similar issues from other artists - and good ones like you.  That's why I feel a need to step back as well - if people like you are being put under the microscope and having excellent cards rejected for the silliest of reasons, then I really stand very little chance of seeing future submissions meet with approval.

Hi Angela,
Thank you for letting us know that you and your sister are taking a break.

You have shared joys and sorrows in your life and have become part of my thoughts and cares as part of the GCU family, I would have wondered what had happened to you.

Be sure to come back and share your successes, there will be many!

Hope 2012 brings you and your family good health, prosperity and the time and energy to focus on your many talents and interests.
Best wishes always,

That is so sad and I few others I know have done the same thing.  I just heard GCU will not be offering free shipping any longer????  And you are not able to use two discount codes at the same time like we were able to before (ie. our artist code and free shipping code)  That is how I have always bought my own cards to sell in local stores.  If that is the case I will be directing my efforts to my two other sites as well.

I have to say I agree with whomever said we are not getting enough pay for the hassle we are going through.

Where did you here this Jane?

We've never been allowed to use discount codes WITH our artist discount, but have always been allowed to use free shipping with our artist discount.  It's okay if that changes, but I'm curious how you were informed, because I missed the announcement.

I just had a card accepted. It was the same card that was placed in my Private Gallery because the reviewer did not like the one blurry, green cocktail glass in the background. The customer needed that
card and could not wait for GCU to decide if it was "fit". This process took over a week. The card in question was purchased from my other store.

I resubmitted the card and explained why it appeared that way. The reviewer thanked me for the added comment. I don't think I needed to do that ... but that is what submitting our cards is coming down to.

GCU... I hope you are listening, please! I really like it here. But things are changing and sometimes change is not always good.  undecided

I think we have finally got our answer! In a post from Mindy here - http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1323087268/30 she says, "To best compete we need to draw the line and no longer accept cards that are not professional in quality."

I guess that means that we should only submit our best here, and nothing more. If it is declined over and over again, then we should ask ourselves if we are good enough for this site, or should we move on?  undecided

I have been writing for a company who had those kind of standards a long time ago. So, this is nothing new to me. They are so picky that you had better not have a comma out of place, or you're gone.

Another artist told me of this and I have ALWAYS used free shipping code with my artist code so yes we were able to use more than one with our artist discount.

I honestly thought the good many of us were doing our best to submit out best.  I've attempted to be very critical of my work.

And for Jane, I think Joan was questioning my motives for mentioning the discrepancy in the number of artists actually set up here.  I've had a number of conversations about current goings-on off forum and it seemed odd to someone I chatted with that the homepage states 4000 artists and in reality there are just over 2300.

It's just an observation of a discrepancy that for all good purposes should be rectified so that people coming to the site have accurate information - and as it stands right now, this doesn't appear to be accurate.  I don't mean to be picky... just commenting aloud...

I would agree too Donna and thank you for clarifying - sometimes the responses get farther behind and it's hard to follow.  I also feel that if we have to do our utmost best to be professional they GCU should also and update the numbers like you suggested.  Wouldn't that also be a professional thing to do?

GCU should learn from Netflix. Look what happened to that company. Please GCU don't allieniate your artist base with such picky "marketability" standards. I would be interested in knowing if they have sold more or less card since the new standards took effect.

I would think it should be the right thing to do.  Be honest in the number of artists that are here.  I'm also wondering exactly how many cards are now on this site with the culling process going on.  I know for myself, a few were removed and I myself went in and took out several on my own.  Others might see the ax at some point - I don't recall getting a definitive "you are all done" in regards to culling at my store and if so then I missed that with all my other junk going on.  But either way, during my holiday break, I will be revisiting my GCU store and making changes as I do want only my best to be displayed.

I will say ironically, I'm seeing a few more sales than I did at this time last year - I have no idea if it is because I'm going full tilt peddling my own wares or that the search engines have finally caught my cards.  It's one card here and there but at this time last year I saw more or less zero sales.  So, in that respect, I am happy to have that.
