Just a thought, for what it's worth
Nov 26th, 2011, 8:46pm

Greetings!

I'm wondering if it would be possible to have the forum only open to people who actually have shops here at GCU?  Maybe after a person has 2 approved cards in their shop they can join the forum.  I say 2 cards for reasons that will remain unmentioned here.

This may cut down on the annoyance factor.

Thanks!

Yes, Cathy, I agree with you on quality over quantity, but as I mentioned, there's a reason for the 2 cards in this case.

Welcome to GCU!

Thanks, Tracie and Mary!

I mentioned this to Mindy a long time ago, and it was a no-go.  Sad Basically, our customers are free to read anything we post. We have no privacy and they have no plans to give us any.  cry

Thanks for chiming in, Rebecca!

I brought this up today because of the spam that has been posted repeatedly.

Well, it's just unfortunate.  I've been here for 3+ years and it seems like this forum is not as lively as it once was.  Too bad.

I agree, since my mailbox was full of spam. 35 from gcu. the 2 approved cards would stop the spammers.

Why don't you change you preference so that you don't get the emails? I do, I just visit and read on line, and ignore any spam posts. A visit or two every day and I keep up to date.

For the past two days I've received in my inbox from the GCU forum what appears to be spam; the subjects range from Tiffany rings to NIKE shoes. When I click on them I'm told I don't have the right to access to access this section and an error has occurred. I'm quite certain these messages aren't originating from shopkeepers. I'm wondering if others are getting these. Perhaps this is yet another reason to look into who is getting access to GCU forums.  embarrassed

Norma, it's been a while since I changed any preferences. How exactly do I get to there?

Thanks!

Paul, it is years since I did it so i hope I am remembering correctly! There is a link to notifications at the top of this board, click that, then untick all the boards.

Nice thought, that was brought up long ago and it would be nice Wink  Not likely to happen.  The forum is 3rd party software meaning that GCU pays another company so that we can have this forum to communicate, therefore it's unlikely that we'll get a separate forum just for us.

Rebecca, we absolutely have privacy from customers when wanted.  If you look at the Forum Sections there are at least 3 which are artist's only.

Just food for thought... Though the idea to not allow forum access until a min of two cards is a nice idea and might stop some of the spam, it will do nothing for this type of spamming.  What has been coming through the past couple of days is being done by an auto-bot which is why they come in waves of 20+ at a time and has managed to get through, so this is not even an account that's been created, most likely it has managed to hijack or piggyback someone's account.

The only thing that will stop this type of spam is the GCU techies on Monday AND that each of us make sure we have a CURRENT malicious software checker on our computer and have it set to update daily.  This type of auto-spamming (like what was happening to Sue's Facebook contacts) often starts on our computers at home and is passed maliciously everywhere we go.
