Have you dropped the general subcategory?
 
Search using category list from GCU home page Example:
Birthday>Mom/Mother (2,795)
Age Specific (1,436)
Birth Month Flower Specific (37)
From 1st / First Born (3)
From All of Us / Children (34)
From Daughter (77)
From Last Born / Baby of the Family (2)
From Middle Child (3)
From Only Child (2)
From Son (54)
+ Mum / Mam (170)
Other Mom / Mother (15)
 
I have placed general Mother birthday cards in a general subcategory in the past.  There is a general subcategory listed in my store.  Here is a copy of my store list that includes the general subcategory:
  Mom / Mother (199)
      Age Specific (165)
      From All of Us / Children (2)
      From Daughter (4)
      From Son (4)
      General Mom / Mother (20)
      Mum / Mam (4)
The number of cards in the subcategories add up to 199.
 
But there is none when I go through the categories from GCU Home page.  The number of cards in the sub categories below the Birthday>Mom/Mother do not add up to 2,795.
 
This may be related in some way to the issue of the store front categories being messed up as Doreen brought up in this forum thread: http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1316658991
 
When I click the Mom/Mother subcategory in my store there are only 20 cards showing on the page even though the number says 199.  There are 20 cards in my general subcategory.  The same 20 cards are showing in both.
