After I read your post I went back to my inbox and saw one from '"Artists Services", I sold a card in Germany. It's only one but it's something:>)

I agree Terry, I've sold two cards in two days!  Thay's actually a lot or me.  It is rather exciting to see the "Artist Services" e-mails!

Well done to all of us!
It is great to see the site growing after all our hard work. The behind the scenes people have really been making a difference with getting the site known and attracting new customers, and it is showing in our results.

This is great news for the GCU community.

I'm a new designer with a growing but small inventory of cards.  Unfortunately, I've not had many sales yet.  I'm beginning to get the word out about my cards through emails to various people.  And, I have plans for more marketing endeavors.  I know I have to improve my designs, so I realize a part of it is a learning process.  My cards are mostly made from my photography portfolio.  These photos are sold on imagekind.com under the storefront Curious Eye Photography.  I've gotten a lot of support and favorable reviews for my photographs from this Web site, so I hope to translate this portfolio into designing and selling greeting cards.

However, I've yet to get over the hump in terms of getting significant sales.  For new members, how long does it typically take to start getting meaningful sales?  Are there any ideas for me?

I have had my store for six months and only sold twenty cards but it is slowly improving. Just keep designing and it will improve, it takes time for search engines to catch up with you.
I also use my photography in my designs.

I just checked your store and it is empty?

Hi Brian,

There really is no answer to 'how long before I make my first sale'.  For some it's almost immediate, for others it's nearly a year.  What I can say is that as long as you continue to add to cards to your store (where are your cards btw?), keep your stores from being viewed as 'stagnant' by search engines and promote your stores, the sales will come and with time will grow, becoming more consistent.

Norma & All . . . Yes!  It's wonderful to see all the sales coming through from the promotion GCU is doing!  CONGRATULATIONS everyone!

Huh
My storefront was without cards for awhile because I tried to add subcategories, and somehow didn't do it right.  This left my entire store empty of cards.  I guess I don't know how to add subcategories, and need to learn.  I hope some of you will return to my storefront at Curious Eye Cards to give me your feedback.  I felt bad that when you took the time to look there was nothing there.  I don't have a large inventory yet, but I'm working on it.

Hello again Brian,

Don't feel bad, those sub-galleries still throw me for a loop too and I haven't found the time and courage to attempt them  Grin

Without giving a photographic critique, let me offer this advice.  Your cards are blank photographic cards which would sell better as is on sites such as Redbubble and Imagekind where people expect to find this type of card.  GCU's customer base is for greeting cards and a greeting card is occasion and/or relation specific.  So from a getting sales standpoint on GCU, I would suggest you spread your wings a bit and create some cards with a specific message to add to your store collection.

This doesn't mean that blank cards don't sell here, they do, so don't remove your cards or stop adding them, they just are not the main sellers.

Take some time to check out our GCU Community Blog, specifically Corrie's Nuts & Bolts articles and my Dash of Inspiration posts.  The archives are there for you to browse.  There is a tremendous amount of information there to add to your knowledge base about creating and selling greeting cards; as well as downloads for free commercial use fonts which are legible on cards.  Good place to start if you'd like to expand your offerings.

Also feel free to participate in our Critique Clinic every weekend where experienced card designers, photographers and artists offer helpful critique to improve your card(s).

Glad to have you here at GCU and look forward to seeing your cards sell!
