Shaun: Categories in Storefront STILL messed up
Sep 21st, 2011, 7:36pm

Hi Shaun,

I had told a customer who inquired whether I had baby shower invitations and of course I said yes, my category states I should have 23, but what shows on the screen is 4.

Whatever this issue is, it's been in my store for well over a month, seems to keep coming back and I would bet it has something to do with how the system is trying to deal with sub-galleries in stores. I don't have sub-galleries, never have found the time to set them up, but I would guess that there is a connection.

This is really frustrating and my potential customer thinks I'm nuts and most likely won't be browsing my store anytime soon.  cry

Here is an example of the above reference, if I had the time I'm sure I would find more situations like this in my store:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/store.asp?store_id=2686&CGID=5 6&num=

PLEASE help!

Hi Doreen,
If it's any assistance, my observations.
When I look at the category list on the left of the store.
I notice that where there is a 'general' subcategory choice within the main category, Announcements, Birthday, etc, then ONLY the general cards show. For all others you must select a more specific subcategory to see those cards.
It would make sense and used to be? that when you opened a main category that you see ALL the cards, then drill down as you need to. Does that make sense?

For instance Doreen I see that you have 227 invitations overall, of which 23 are Baby shower invitations and only the 4 general/gender neutral ones show.
I would make sense to see all 23 then drill down from there not have to go seek the others.

If it's any consolation it is the same in my store. I have an independent set-up and because it is coded from pulling up the categories on the left, it too is not working correctly for the general selection, it does work for the more specific subcategories.

Not sure if any of that made sense, it's late here and I am retiring for the day  Wink

Hi, Doreen,

I just looked at your store and I see what you're experiencing.  For example under "Announcements" it shows that you have 111 cards, but clicking on "Announcements" yields 0 cards.  In fact it reads as 0 cards.

Apparently the only way to see cards under Announcements, or any main category is to click the sub category, such as "Adoption" which shows 8 cards.

I know that I'm not Shaun, or any real help here, but I wanted to offer a bit of support, and let you know that you're not alone in this, as my shop is displaying cards the same way.  I don't recall the cards displaying like this before.  (I have to confess that I don't go to my shop very often.)  So this might be site wide.  I looked at a few other shops and this seems to be the case, but if someone has 10,000 cards, then even clicking the main categories yield lots of results.

I never set up the subcategories in my store, either.

IMHO:  I think that if a customer clicks on a main category, then all of the cards in that category should display and then the customer can hone in on the subcategories that they want to browse.

A quick look makes it seem like a shop has no cards in those main categories.  Sometimes customers don't realize that they have to look for the subcategories to find what they want.  Maybe a prompt to alert customers of the specific subcategories would help?

Hi Pamela & Penny!  Thanks for chiming in Smiley

As I understand it from Shaun and trying to correct this in the past month or so, it IS still supposed to show the way it used to all cards in the main category when clicked on, so all 227 Invitations for example (Yes Pamela you made perfect sense Smiley )

IF this is the way its supposed to work now, I strongly suggest we put it back the way it was.  Customers are in a hurry, they are not here to try and comprehend what they are looking at and solve a problem of how to get to where they want to go.  It's our job as a seller to make it as easy as possible for them and not make them solve a puzzle.

Thank you both for your support . . . nice to know I'm not alone Smiley

Yes, I've had a customer frustrated with this as well. I hope it can be fixed or returned to the way it was for the customer's sake.

I've been frustrated with this issue as well while trying to find certain cards, not only in my own store, but also in other artist's stores. So, if it frustrates those of us who understand the current "system," imagine how much more it would frustrate our customers!  undecided

I agree Robin!  I wanted to give a link to my Birthday card collection to someone who asked yesterday and once again I have 4 cards showing . . . well since I don't know what specifics he wants in a card, I had to create a search URL which is time consuming  cry
