Image coordinates on photo cards
Aug 27th, 2011, 8:02pm

Am having problems when I go to define a transparent area on the new photo cards. My card image does not show up after selecting "New Transparent Area." All I see is a black white 5 x 7 card outline so I am left to some imaginative guessing where to place the area. Usually means doing several edits (including going ahead with a placeholder -- and then more editing) before I feel confident that I have the area set close enough to work. The first couple of times I designed a photo card, this did not happen. Don't know why it started. Any suggestions. Incidentally, I am running Windows XP and use Photoshop Elements 9 for my designs and save them as a .png file.

This may be a dumb question, but did you click SAVE after defining your transparent area?

Corrie, I think he is saying that he cannot define the transparent area in the first place. He is having to guess where to place it.
Is that right Lloyd?

Yes, Norma is correct. I am having to guess at where to place the coordinates because my design does not show after selecting "New Transparent Area." I only get a blank outline of the card.

I should add, that once I save my "guessed at" coordinates (if they seem to be ok), I can select a Placeholder, and everything seems to show up correctly after that.

When your card is black, Lloyd, do you see a small white dot on it somewhere? If you do, grab the corner and give it a pull. That should open the tool that lets you define the transparent area.

Problem is that the image does not show up at all (only a blank outline the size of a card). The tool to define the area was there. However, decided to try one more. This time everything worked fine. Once I selected "Define A New Transparent Area", my image was still there so I could see where to define the transparent area. Not sure why I had problems previously -- with only two cards.

Don't know if this makes a difference, but both of the cards that gave me trouble had a framed, round area where the photo was to go. All others have had a rectangular shaped area. Other than this, I can think of nothing about the cards that was different -- or that I did differently when creating them or placing them in GCU.

Hi Lloyd, are any of these cards still in your store?  If so can you provide the product id so that we can take a look at what's happening and possibly do some testing?

Yes, Shaun. Product ID numbers 857389 and 857376. Keep in mind that they both show an image in the proper place. However, I got there only by guessing at the proper coordinates on a blank white screen (instead of my darkened card image) with the placement tool, then putting in a Placeholder, and then going back and forth with editing the transparent area until the image appeared to be where it should be.

Thanks,
Lloyd
